December 8 , 2013 – SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

December 8th, 2013 – SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
St. Augustine said, “God, who created us without our help, will not save us without our help/consent.” In today’s gospel John the
Baptist asks us to play our essential part by leading lives of repentance, conversion and renewal, thus preparing the way for
the Lord’s second coming. He challenges us to have a change of heart, no less. The first reading predicts the coming of the Great
King of David’s line, Who will bring justice and peace to the earth. The second reading reminds us that the source of unity is Christ
Himself. St. Paul enjoins the early Christians to live in harmony with others, to accept them as equals and as brothers and sisters,
while waiting for the second coming of our Lord.

The parish will be hosting an Advent Retreat on Saturday,
December 14 from 9am to 3pm. Fr. Hansoo Park will be
facilitating the retreat and it will begin with the Mass. It’s a full
day retreat. the cost is $20, which includes breakfast and lunch.
Please keep this day free. Tickets available at the Parish Office.
Would your family like to bring the joy of Christmas to the less
fortunate? Most importantly, we want to ensure our Saint Vincent
de Paul families have a good meal. Can you help with groceries?
To accommodate a variety of food preferences and dietary
restrictions, we suggest donating food gift cards from No Frills the only lower cost grocery store within the parish boundaries.
For a family of 2 - 3, we typically recommend $75.00, a family of
4 would be $100.00. Cards in denominations of $25.00 are
easiest for us to organize. If you would like to bring additional
cheer by providing small gifts, then may we suggest giving gift
cards from local department stores such as Walmart in
denominations of $25.00. This provides parents with the
opportunity to purchase a gift for each member of their family.
Donations may be brought to the church through December 15th.
To find out more about sharing the season with a neighbour in
need, please leave your name and phone number on the Saint
Vincent de Paul voice mail box 905-890-5290 extension 700 by
December 10th and a volunteer will return your call.
