YEAR END SCHOOL PRAYER
Loving God, we thank You for all Your gifts to us,
for saving us in Christ, for calling us to be Your people.
As we come to the end of the school year, we give You thanks
for all the good things You have done for us.
We thank You for all who have
shared in the work of our school this year,
And we ask You to bless us all in Your love.
We offer this prayer, O God, through Christ, our Lord.
Amen
Year-End Message
As the 2014-2015 school year comes to a close, we take this time to be
thankful for the many contributions of all members of St. Hilary School’s
community and to reflect on the many accomplishments and successes that
we have experienced this year. Our faith unites us as a community and
provides us with strength and hope as we journey with our students and
community partners. Thank you to our incredibly talented and caring staff
who work diligently to provide the best possible education for our
students. Many thanks go out to you all for the time and commitment
given so graciously. I would particularly like to acknowledge the hard
work of our head secretary, Mrs. De Roia, as well as our custodial staff,
Mr. Payne, Mr. Obre and Mr. Zielinski for ensuring our school is
well-cared for. Special thanks to our parent community for your ongoing
support of school initiatives. Thank you to our Trustee, Thomas Thomas,
and to our Superintendent, Lucy Papaloni, for their continued support.
We are blessed with strong bonds between school, parish and home that
support our mission of Catholic Education. We would like to take this
opportunity to thank Msgr. Pan, Fr. Roldan and Fr. Savarimuthu for their
ongoing leadership and spiritual guidance over the course of the school
year. On behalf of the staff of St. Hilary School, I would like to wish
everyone a safe and happy summer! May God Bless, T. Loftus

Events
Jesus spent a major part of His time on earth showing us
how to care for people in need. Everyone needs a FAIR
chance to succeed – to overcome their disadvantages and
disabilities. A fair team player makes sure the rules of the
game give everyone an even chance to participate.
Not everyone has to win but everyone deserves a chance to
be in the game.
To our Grade 8 graduates,
we extend a fond farewell
and a wish for continued
success and happiness as
you embark on the next
segment of your life
journey.
MBC Diversity Conference
On Friday, May 1st, five grade 7 students - Kecha,
Victoria, Marc, Mirage and Andres - traveled to Blessed
Trinity School for the MBC Diversity Conference. We had
a blast! The day started with a liturgy and then a very
inspirational speech by Youth Minister David Patterson.
He leads the Edge program at St. Francis Xavier Church
which many St. Hilary students participate in on Friday
evenings. David reminded us to make our mess into a
message and to say “YES” to God. In the afternoon, we
were entertained by the popular spoken word rapper Wali
Shah and he reminded us that your gift plus an issue
equals change. His gift is music and his issue was bullying
and he believes that we can change the world and we
believe that too. Can we get a yeah yeah! Many thanks to
Mrs. Yamaguchi for accompanying our students to this
wonderful event!
All members of St. Hilary

Protecting the Skin from the Sun
Over-exposure to the sun can cause skin
damage. Students are reminded to take precautions
to protect the skin. Some recommendations are:




Wear protective clothing to cover the skin
Wear a hat to protect the eyes and skin
Wear sun block (the higher the protection factor
number, the greater the protection)
Stay away from direct sunlight when possible
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to review these
strategies with children.
With the warm weather approaching, we would
like to take this opportunity to review the dress
code expectations at St. Hilary. As a Catholic
school, we believe that there must be a
commitment to high standards of modesty,
neatness, cleanliness and good taste. Halter-tops,
short shorts, spandex bike wear, muscle shirts, flip
flops and similar clothing and shoes are not
appropriate for classroom instruction. Shirts
should be of appropriate length to be able to be
tucked into pants or a skirt. No midriffs or belly
buttons should be showing. Shorts and skirts
should be the appropriate length for school (e.g.,
longer than the length of your arm and hand
when held at the side of your body). Suggestive or
inappropriate language or violent symbols are not
permitted on any clothing or personal belongings.
Sunglasses, hats, (including bandanas worn as
head covering) are not to be worn inside the
school. Non-marking running shoes are to be
worn during physical education classes. Tight
and/or revealing clothing is not acceptable. Bra
straps should not be visible. The width of shoulder
straps on tops should be at least 2 inches or
5 centimetres wide. We appreciate your support.
Lost and Found
Many items have accumulated in our
school lost and found box. Parents are
welcome to visit the school to check for materials
belonging to their children.
Any items in the lost and found box not claimed by June
20th will be donated to a charity.
Playground Safety Rules
We remind students daily of
playground expectations.
Please review the following rules with

Kiss ‘N Ride
Please note that it is extremely important that parents drive slowly and cautiously while on
school grounds. The lane closest to the curb in the front driveway is for BUSSES ONLY.
The Kiss ‘N Ride lane is the middle lane. Please ensure that children exit your vehicle by the
right hand side passenger door(s) only.
At no time should parents park and leave their vehicles unattended in the Kiss ‘N Ride lane.
Please park your vehicle in the front parking lot or on the street.
Parking Enforcement
City of Mississauga Parking Enforcement officers have been vigilant in enforcing city
parking by-laws in the area around the school. Please be aware of where you park your
vehicle. There are fire hydrants and other No Parking / No Stopping areas that need to be
observed.
Please do not park and leave vehicles unattended in the Kiss ‘N’ Ride Lanes as they could be
ticketed. Cars parked in the Kiss ‘N’ Ride also create a very dangerous situation and impede the flow
of traffic. If you wish to walk your child to their entry point, we request that you park in the front
parking lot or on the street and escort your child.

Last Day of School
As the year comes to a close, we must prepare to say goodbye to staff who are
leaving St. Hilary School. We bid farewell to Mrs. Rodrigues who has been a
valuable contributor to our school team as an LTO DECE in one of our
Kindergarten Classes. We thank her for the exceptional service which she has
provided our students and we feel blessed to have had this time to work with her.
We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Head Custodian,
Mr. Payne, on his upcoming retirement! Mr. Payne has been an outstanding
custodian at St. Hilary School for many years and he has blessed this community
with his caring personality, sense of humour and consistent efforts to always to
go beyond the call of duty. Best wishes to Mr. Payne, that he may enjoy good
health and much happiness during his well-deserved retirement. He will truly be
missed!
