Principal‘s Message
Three years ago the staff at St. Marguerite d‘Youville
committed to the goal of increasing the feeling of acceptance,
connectedness and belonging among staff and students. This
month the staff and students at St. Marguerite d‘Youville
received the Premier‘s Award for Safe and Accepting schools.
d‘Youville is so proud to be one of 12 schools across
the province who are recognized for creating a safe
and positive school climate. Local MPP, the
Honorable Linda Jeffery, visited our school to bring
greetings from the Premier and congratulate our
school community and in particular the members of
our Catholic Community, Culture and Caring
Committee. The staff and students on this committee
led the school in effectively implementing many
creative initiatives aimed at building a culture of
peace, acceptance and opportunity. We will continue
our Catholic mandate to support and care for each
other in our pursuit of excellence.
I am also very grateful for all our staff for their
efforts in providing so many curricular and cocurricular opportunities for our students. There is
something for everyone at d‘Youville. We are also
so proud of the accomplishments of our students and
in particular I would like to thank our senior grade
12 graduating students who have been excellent role
models for our younger students and have led our
school community in creating a culture of success,
acceptance and belonging.
Once again this year we celebrate achieving Gold
Certification in the Ontario Eco-Schools program.
Mr. Marcellino, Ms. Abbatangelo and Mrs. Fraser
have worked very hard with the students of the
Green Force team to maintain an environmentally
responsible school.
Our Athletic and Arts programs have also enjoyed
another successful year. It was not too long ago that
we were celebrating the Sr. Boys Football
Championship, Sr. and Jr. Boys Basketball
championships and a Silver performance by our
Senior Concert Band at the Canadian National Music
Festival.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate
Mr. Caldwell on his retirement after 30 years in
Catholic Education. Mr. Caldwell has dedicated so
much to our Academic Resource Department and
working directly with students to reach their goals. I
would also like to congratulate Mr. Paul McMorrow
Superintendent of Brampton East, Caledon, Dufferin
and Malton Family of Schools. Mr. McMorrow has
been our superintendent for the last 4 years andhas
led our schools with wisdom, experience, kindness,
humility and integrity. We also say good bye to Vice
Principals Mr. Alva and Mrs. Belchior and
Department Heads Mr. Giannobile, Mrs. Marshall
and Mrs. Speranza. We thank them for their
contributions to the d‘Y community and wish them
good luck in their new endeavors with the board.
They leave large shoes to fill!!
It has been another fantastic year at St. Marguerite
d‘Youville. Thank you to all staff, students, parents,
Father Pat and Father Steve for all that you have
contributed to our year.
Have a safe and restful summer vacation. See you in
September!
Sincerely,
Mr. Greco

Chaplain‘s Message
As I reflect on this
year we have lived
together, there is
one thing I can say
with
c e r t a in t y .
There has been a lot
of learning and
growth. We often
look back and say,
―That was a good
year‖,
basically
meaning
it
was
without too many
difficulties.
However a good
year doesn‘t necessarily mean that it was without
difficulties. In fact, difficulties and challenges are often the best way to learn and grow. We learn
through our challenges; we can even learn from our
mistakes.
Our theme this year has been ―Growing Together in
Faith.‖ Have you struggled at times with your faith?
Perhaps your faith has grown through the struggles.
When faced with challenges, have you found consolation and strength through your faith? Jesus never
said he would solve all of our problems. He did say
he will be with us always. Whether we have been
aware of it or not, he has been walking with us every
step of the way.
I feel extremely blessed to work with this staff and
student body. St. Marguerite d‘Youville is truly a
great community because of the generosity and commitment of so many people. A lot goes on here, and
it has been a tremendous year of learning and
growth.
I wish everyone a restful and joyful summer filled
with God‘s love.

Theology
Following God‘s Call For Us
growing in faith, hope and love.
When you walk into the main corridor of
St. Marguerite d‘Youville, you are greeted
with this passage from Scripture, written by
the prophet, Micah:
Secondly, the message from Micah goes out
to all students and staff who are finishing up
their year – whether in grade 9, happy to
have survived; in grade 11, looking into
their future; or staff who are anxious for
some time with their families this summer.
As a community, we are called to serve one
another, and we do so by seeking love and
justice. As we grow and mature, this calling
becomes much more tangible through our
actions and goals.
―And what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness, and
to walk humbly with your God?‖ (Micah
6:8)
This passage is fitting for many reasons as
we come to another year-end.
First, this message speaks to our graduates.
For the past four years, students have
worked hard to reach their goals, striving
academically, socially and athletically.
Being part of a Catholic school community
shapes our students in a way that is filled
with love, hope and humility.
When asked how Catholic education
shaped her life, Lianne Gomes said that it
―has allowed me to incorporate virtues such
as respect, faith, empathy and love into my
daily life, especially the way I deal with the
people around me. It has also allowed me
to grow in my capacity to learn the various
subjects that the school offers…Catholic
education allows students to grow in
knowledge, morality and maturity.‖
When reflecting on the value of taking
Religious Education courses, Natalie
Doummar stated that ―Religious Education
curriculum, especially grade 10 and grade
12, has developed my knowledge and
critical thinking process on tough issues…
opened my eyes from ignorance to wanting
to learn more. Topics such as abortion and
causes of poverty have become more
important to me and I will continue to
focus on debating them as I move onward
in life.‖
Listening to our Grade 12 students reflect on
Catholic education reminds us that when
we listen to God‘s call, we see the
opportunities to act justly, lovingly and
humbly. We are so proud of the young
men and women who are graduating this
year we encourage you all to continue
As is the nature of the Theology
Department, many teachers find themselves
stepping into our department for short
periods of time in order to spread the
message of Christ through Religious
Education curriculum. This semester, we
have been blessed with some passionate
teachers who will continue to search for
their niche in education. We thank the
following teachers for their incredible
commitment to Catholic education and
hope to see them return to us in the future:
Ms. Kitunen, Ms. Mandaric, Ms. Kisic, Mr.
Khalid, Ms. Raposo and Ms. Ogwo-Sunny.
Finally, this message resonates closely to my
own heart as this will be my last submission
for Paws and Reflect. God has called me in
a different direction and so, I will be leaving
the wonderful community of St. Marguerite
d‘Youville to begin a position as a
Chaplaincy Leader at Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel in Mississauga. While my time here
has been short, I will leave with a full heart
and memories to last a lifetime. To be part
of such a faith-filled, loving, accepting
community has been a highlight of my
teaching career. I have been truly blessed.
May you all be filled with the love of God
as you journey through life.
God Bless,
Alana Marshall
Department Head of Theology

d‘Youville Drama
Greetings from d‘Youville Drama! Our grade 9 and 10 classes just wrapped up
their CPT performances. It was a great semester with lots of laughs and hard
work. It looks like we have a lot of new talent on the rise…
On Wednesday, June 5, our Drama
students had the opportunity to
catch Soulpepper Theatre‘s latest
production, the hilarious and
thought-provoking comedy Kim‘s
Convenience. We loved returning
to our favourite theatre company for
the riveting performances and a
chance to see theory put into
practice by the talented cast. It was
also exciting to visit the Distillery
District in downtown Toronto,
taking in the history, art, and as
always, visiting the local chocolatier!
Anyone interested in being a future
student in the Drama classes are
encouraged to enroll. The grade 9
or 10 Dramatic Arts classes are open
courses and there is no prerequisite
required to take the course. You‘ll
have fun while learning to
collaborate and express yourself
artistically, while creating memories
that will last a lifetime. We look
forward to seeing our former
amateur performers as they blossom
into our stage veterans in our junior
and senior drama classes next year. If
you have any questions about
Dramatic Arts courses, you can visit
Mr. Paul in the theatre.
Extra-curricular News
In May, d‘Youville Drama brought
our latest original production, The
Stolen, to the stage. Audiences were
witness to the culmination of months
of hard work from the dedicated
actors, crew members, and stage
managers. At this time of year we
always bid a fond farewell to some
drama veterans, but we are very
fortunate to welcome many new
and talented students to our drama
community.
We wish all our
graduate actors and crew members
the best in the years to come.
As mentioned in the last edition of
Paws and Reflect, d‘Youville Drama
is undergoing a facelift! We can‘t
wait to have our grand re-opening
of the theatre under our new name.
We hope that you can join us for the
excitement next year. As always, we
would like to acknowledge our staff,
administration, and the parents that
support our Drama program,
allowing it to grow and evolve. We
hope that you will visit our theatre
next year or perhaps get involved
with our school production. The
new year ahead will bring new
endeavours and wonderful surprises.
But for now, recharge your batteries
and enjoy the summer months.
Take in some local theatre or enjoy a
summer blockbuster at the cinema
with some friends. Now is your
time to re-invigorate and re-inspire
yourself!
Be safe and God bless.
N. Paul

Green Force & Eco Schools News
Our Green Force and EcoSchools
team have worked extremely
hard all year long to uphold our
GOLD Certification. With our
continued reminders about the
importance of reducing, reusing
and recycling, we hope to attain
our goal!!
A member from Ontario
EcoSchools came to visit d‘Y to
audit our school on Thursday,
May 16th. She was in awe of all
the wonderful eco-friendly things
we have done throughout the
year here at d‘Y. The audit went
extremely well and we anxiously
await our results as we have
worked so hard to achieve GOLD
this year!! Please continue to
check the school website and
listen for announcements for
updates about our 2012-2013
status.
An extra-special THANK YOU to
Iresha Katurusinghe, Diana
Sofowora,
and
Kamoi
McWhinney for their continued
dedication to d‘Ys Green Force
team. All three young ladies did
an excellent job showing the
Ontario
EcoSchools
representative around the school
during the audit. WAY TO GO
(GREEN) LAIDIES!!
THANK YOU to all second
semester grade 9 Geography
classes for their continued
commitment to the RECYCLING
PROGRAM.
A final thank you goes out to all
d‘Y staff for your continued
support with our EcoSchools
initiative. Getting d‘Y on board
to GO GREEN would not be
possible without your constant
dedication and support.
Our d‘Y Eco Schools Team
continues to challenge YOU to
implement green initiatives
EVERY DAY… even throughout
the summer!!
Try some of these:
1. Use reusable water bottles
2. Always use GOOSE paper
(Good On One Side Everyday)
3. Car-pool to school and on
weekends with neighbours and
friends
4. RECYCLE all of your paper and
plastic items into blue bins found
around the school
5. TURN OFF ALL LIGHTS,
COMPUTER MONITORS, TVs,
etc. when you‘re not using them
Miss. Abbatangelo
New Glass Filler
Our Greenforce Team and Eco Schools Committee will be launching
an informational awareness campaign around the use of our new
‗Glass Filler‘ fountain outside of the gym. As part of our ongoing
commitment to reducing waste and raising awareness on
environmental issues, (including the reduction & elimination of
plastic water bottles in our school), d‘Youville will be encouraging
everyone to bring in or switch to a stainless steel container or
reusable bottles for drinking water.
Thank-you again for supporting our ongoing efforts to reduce our
collective ecological PAWPRINT!
See you in September!

Justice League: Spring 2013
Hey d‘Youville, hope you are
getting ready for the summer!
d‘Youville‘s Justice League had a
tremendous year! We were able
to make positive changes within
the school and our community.
We took part in Canada‘s largest
ever Penny Drive, an initiative
started by Free The Children. We
Create Change was an initiative
that provided clean water for
those in developing countries. To
our lovely surprise, we were able
to collect 70,000 pennies!!! We
also had a friendly competition to
see how many pennies each
homeroom could come up with.
Ms. Raposo‘s class raised a
heaping 12,500 pennies! Mrs.
Sunny‘s class was the second
runner up.
We were ecstatic
because for every $25 that was
raised in pennies, one person
received clean water for life!
Also, we held our 2nd annual Fair
Trade Fair on Tuesday May 7th.
The turnout was exceptional. We
had a guest speaker, Paul
Wellhauser, from Nharo, who
spoke to classes during 2nd period
in the cafeteria. On all lunches,
many booths were set up to
provide students with fair trade
kn ow ledge and wit h t he
opportunity to purchase fair trade
products.
In addition to Plan
Canada, Justice League and
Nharo, a Toronto based company
displayed fair trade and
handmade African art, décor,
jewelry and sculptures. We also
showcased fair trade displays from
Mississauga‘s Reunion Island
Coffee, who provided
complimentary coffee (sustainably
made, of course!). Harmony
Whole Foods Market from
Orangeville, donated a
chocolate and tea gift basket to
raffle away. Noinkees, also from
Orangeville, featured various
local, socially responsible
products. ACCESS Charity, also
attended whose focus is
onproviding opportunities
for education for children in
developing countries. The
students loved interacting
with the different vendors
and are excited to have
them back next year.
Along with the initiatives in
second semester, we took
part in the We are Silent
campaign (formerly the Vow
of Silence) that raised
awareness for people
around the world who are
socially oppressed.
Sadly, the school year has come to
an end, and that means that
another year of Justice League has
gone by. However, as a team,
we are excited to be rejuvenated
over the summer with many
new ideas for our 2013-2014
year at d‘Youville.
On behalf of Justice League,
thank you for BEING THE
CHANGE D‘Y!

Link Crew 2013: Fighting Crime, One Link Leader at a Time!
On Tuesday, April 30th, Link Leaders Tim, Anais, Anesha and Anthony, along
with students from St. Marcellinus S.S., visited the Peel Regional Police
Headquarters to learn about the Crimestoppers Program. After learning about
Crimestoppers from Police Coordinator Sergeant Iris Johnston, and Assistant
Coordinator Lenore Terry, students had the opportunity to tour various
departments with Peel Regional Police for a first-hand experience of life in this
profession. This included a tour of the live 911 call center, the evidence staging
room, and the crime scene investigations van. As part of Dufferin-Peel‘s
commitment to safe schools, these students will be working closely with
Crimestoppers to create an engaging presentation geared toward high school
students that will be used throughout Dufferin-Peel. For more information
about Crimestoppers or to submit an anonymous tip, visit
www.peelcrimestoppers.ca or check them out on Twitter or Facebook.
Planning for Independence Program
By growing together in faith we
have made many wonderful
memories together in the
Planning for Independence
Program this year.
Some
memorable moments are made
up of the times we spend at
school. We had fun
participating in various school
events: football buyout, seeing
the play Harvey and dressing up
for Halloween.
We were
fortunate to have won first
place in the Christmas Door
decorating contest. We gladly
contributed to the Christmas
basket drive, collected
attendance and watered the
school plants for Green Force.
We have also had the
opportunity to go on many
outings: Downey‘s Farm, Casa
Loma, Bramalea City Center,
Brampton Public Library,
Brunswick Bowl, Movie theatre,
McDonald‘s and Swiss Chalet!
In class, our students have made
and shared cookies, personal
pizzas, Thanksgiving lunch,
Shrove Tuesday breakfast, and
celebra ted other special
occasions. In addition to all
these events our PIP students
joined the senior concert band,
performing What a Wonderful
World while signing for the
Equity and Diversity Conference
hosted at our school for
members of the Dufferin-Peel
school community. Again, this
year our students entered the
ROPSSAA Special Events Track
and Field two-day meet. You
could not contain the energy
and spirit of our team and our
supporters! Our students
continue to embrace our virtues
of joy, faith, empathy,
conscience, hope, self-control,
r espe ct, k in d ne ss , l o ve,
acceptance and fairness in their
Catholic high school life being
the people God intends them to
be. Finally, Congratulations to
Andrew Quach and Dori James,
who graduate from our
program this year. We pray
that your God given gifts serve
you well in the future!

by God to do
extraordinary things,
but to do ordinary
things with
extraordinary love.”

Breakfast of Panthers
On Tuesday, April 23 rd , 2013
d‘Youville held its first annual
Breakfast of Panthers. This was a
morning dedicated to students who
have demonstrated some (if not all)
of these qualities: a positive attitude
that contributed to the feeling of
connectedness in the classroom,
showed initiative, demonstrated
good leadership skills, made students
feel welcome and demonstrated
outstanding effort in his or her class
work where the focus was on
improvement rather than attaining
the highest mark. In addition to a
certificate, students were treated to a
scrumptious breakfast of pancakes,
eggs, hash browns and sausages,
made and served by our awesome
hospitality teachers - J. Knott and M.
Monticciolo - and their students.
This event was a huge success with
the help of the chairs of the

May was also a great success, and
featured performances from the
Junior Concert Band and the Senior
Concert Band. Music students
finished the year with a performance
at the annual Wonderland Music
Festival in June. Congratulations to
all the music students for your many
accomplishments this year, and thank
you to everybody for your support
of the music program!
We look forward to seeing you in
the Fall.

On February 21st, 2013, students in
grades 10, 11 and 12 had the unique
opportunity to attend the second
annual visit to The Second City in
Toronto, thanks to a French as a
Second Language Ministry grant. This
fully interactive excursion allowed
students to practice their French
speaking skills. As workshops were
delivered entirely in French. Students
gained language proficiency and built
confidence in this inviting
atmosphere. A great time was had

The Moderns department is very
excited to announce the return of
Grade 10 Introduction to Italian (LWI
BD1) for the 2013-2014 school year.
This course will provide the
opportunity for all students to
develop an appreciation and
understanding of the Italian language
and culture. After taking this course,
students will be able to converse in
practical social settings with
confidence. We hope to see many
students from all grades take
advantage of this exciting course.

English Department
It has been a busy year with
plenty of essays, fabulous
CPTs and amazing dramatic
presentations! Students had a
chance to participate in
various field trips and events
offered throughout the year.
Grade 9 students had the
opportunity to view a
production of Romeo and
Juliet and the grade 10s
participated in Shakespearience, an actor led
workshop on The Merchant of Venice. Our senior
students visited the University of Toronto, attended
a lecture and toured the downtown campus. A great
time was had by all!
As we move forward in 21st Century Learning, grade
9 and 10 students in English had online access to
their anthologies and Shakespeare texts, also
selected classes took part in Blended Learning
environments. The online components allow
students to access various multimedia content,
inquiry guides and literacy self-checks pertaining to
the literary work they are studying. We look
forward to providing students with a rich
educational experience as we continue to
incorporate more technology in the classroom.
The d‘Youville English department offers students
many choices to complete their diploma
requirements. Grade 11 students can choose NBE 3U
– a course in Aboriginal studies, END 3UD – a
course in African-American literature, EPS -3O1 – a
course enhancing speaking and presentation skill, as
well as EMS 3O – the media studies course. With so
many choices, there is something for everyone!
Enjoy your summer and don‘t forget to pick up a
book!
Accelerated Reader
As part of grade 9 and 10 English at St. Marguerite
d‘Youville, students participate in a daily reading
program. The Accelerated Reader program provides
an opportunity for students to practice and improve
their reading skills while earning points. This month
we would like to acknowledge and congratulate
St. Marguerite d‘Youville S.S. ~ Summer 2013
Justin Broom from Ms. Cantera‘s grade 9 class who
earned 41.3 points, and Kitti Szabo from Mrs. Ogwo
– Sunny‘s grade 10 class who earned 24 points.
These students are the highest point earners in their
respective grades. Congratulations to our readers!
A Trip to the Theatre
On April 25th, the grade nine English classes
attended a live performance of William
Shakespeare‘s Romeo and Juliet at the Toronto
Center for the Performing Arts. It was an exciting
day for the grade nines, many of whom had never
experienced a Shakespearean play. The day also
included time for the grade nines to have lunch in
Toronto‘s busy downtown core.

ESL Trip
On Friday, May 31 d'Youville's English as a Second
Language students went on their annual trip to
Canada's Wonderland. The day was hot and the
rides were scary, so the students all had their
stamina and courage tested. By the end of the day,
everyone had had lots of fun while practicing
English and making new friends. It was a great way
to finish a fun-filled and challenging semester.

Softball
The Softball team completed the regular season
in second place, securing one of two crucial
play off spots. The Panthers started off strong
with a fantastic showing at the Dunnville
Tournament. The girls went undefeated in pool
play and defeated Gonzaga in a nail biting semi
final 3-2. They took the championship title
with a tight 9-8 victory. Aaliyah Davidson was
named tournament all-star and special mention
was made to Stephanie Alexander for her
strong pitching all tournament long. The
d‘Youville softball team is made up of grade
12‘s Sara Menardi at first base, Shalyah
McConnell at second base, Aaliyah Davidson at
short stop, Laura Melca at back catcher and
Stephanie Alexander as the pitcher. The grade
11‘s Irene Depacina at rover, Rochelle Brooks in

Health & Wellness Day
On May 7th, 2013, the Leadership and
Healthcare classes organized d‘Youville‘s annual
Health and Wellness Fair. Healthy portioning,
smoothies, and new trends in food were
showcased in a fun and creative way that
effectively informed the student body. Students
had the chance to get active in the gym, weight
room, and cross training room while sampling
smoothies, learning what snacks can improve
their workouts, and how portioning can change
their lives.
Grade 11 healthcare students transformed the
theatre into a health clinic where they assessed
and analyzed vitals. As well as educating
students and teachers on human anatomy and
physiology with the use of various models and
animal organs (such as sheep brain, cow eyes,
pig hearts and lungs). Outside in the matrix
grade twelve healthcare students showcased
creepy crawlers in our school community and
stressed the importance of hand washing and
covering portals of entry. Furthermore Child
Development and Gerontology students
displayed information about child abuse. Grade
ten students raised awareness about mental
illnesses.
The fair was a day to inform youth about
adapting good lifestyle choices into their busy
lives. What the event was meant to show was
that being healthy is not difficult; small
modifications can impact your whole life. A big
thank you goes out to Mrs. Kurpaska, Mrs.
Henley and Mrs. McPhee for organizing and
executing the event successfully. d‘Youville
believes that every day you come here should
be another day of self-improvement. With
nutrition and fit initiatives being promoted,
students can feel supported by their school
community to make better choices in and
outside of d‘Youville.

Leadership
This semester the Leadership class under the direction of Mrs. McPhee has organized many successful
events for the students here at St. Marguerite d‘Youville. These events included the ‗Futsal‘ tournament,
the soccer buyout, the 3 on 3 basketball tournament, the Student vs. Teacher basketball game and the
Health and Wellness day. The events were planned and carried out entirely by the leadership students.
Through tireless organization, the leadership students planned out each and every detail for every
tournament including tournament scheduling, printing over 1000 tickets, selling tickets and purchasing
gifts and prizes for the winners of these events. The Futsal tournament was a success with a great turnout
and many competitive players. The winning team by the name of d'Y Beauties was rewarded with a
trophy and beverages. The 3 on 3 basketball tournament brought the most competitive players out and
onto the court. Although there were many competitive teams, one team by the name of Ballers Unite
showed great effort and skill, claiming the winning prizes of beverages and gifts. The soccer buyout was a
great success as well. The leadership team organized and sold snacks to a massive crowd of supporters
and created a welcoming atmosphere by playing music. The leadership team also put on a Student vs
Teacher basketball game. This was one of the best events run entirely by the students. School spirit was
flooding the gym as the crowd of students cheered and made noise while the junior boys‘ basketball team
faced the teachers. As well as organizing tournaments, the leadership team organized a beneficial event
called Health and Wellness day in order to educate the students of the importance of proper health. With
an array of stations from ―Operation Smoothie‖ to ―Weight Room Wonders‖, the leadership team gave
positive insight on how to eat and live healthy with a fun twist. Overall, the leadership team has had a
very successful year with trips to Cedar Glenn and Silver Creek, and many excellent events. Good luck is
wished to those members of the team who will be graduating, and a special thank you goes out to Mrs.
McPhee for being an amazing teacher.

Varsity Girls Soccer
This season, the Varsity Girls Soccer team got off to a
great start by winning their first tournament at the OSA
centre in Woodbridge. The girls qualified for the
Tournament Championship. At the Tournament
Championship, the team lost a heart breaker in penalty
shots to Iona in the Finals.
The team won their 1st game 2-0 over St. Mike‘s. The
girls then lost 2 close games in a row to Campion and
Mayfield. The remaining 3 games were all do or die.
The girls played well to beat Robert F. Hall 2-1 and
Fletcher‘s Meadow 9-0. There was one incident in their
last league game; the girls needed to beat their crosstown rivals from Aquinas to qualify for the Playoffs.
Unfortunately, the ball didn‘t bounce their way and
they were defeated 2-1.
Special mentions go out to Adrianna Currie, Selina
Casalino, Tanisha Johnson and Elisa Lapadula. To the
grade 12‘s that are leaving, the coaches wish you the
best of luck; for the individuals that are returning, we
have unfinished business to take care of.
Better luck next season!

Lacrosse 2013
The programs second year together was a learning process for the lacrosse team. In a season that definitely
was a step in the right direction the boys showed that they can compete. Lead by captains Connor Phillips,
David Martino and Justin Pereira, the boys came together and exemplified great sportsmanship, battling
hard every time they stepped onto the field.
At the home opener the boys lost a heart breaking opening game 7-6 against the Loyola Warriors and ended
the day with a second loss against Mount Carmel. The team came up with a huge 7-3 bounce back win led
by David Martino who scored a hat trick, and Justin Pereira potted 2 goals himself. The self proclaimed
―dynamic duo‖ combined to score 16 goals in 9 games played throughout the regular season. The team
ended the day 1-1 after a loss in their second game against Gonzaga. On the final day of the season the boys
travelled to Iona to play their final two games of the year. In the first game they pulled off a well deserved 7
-6 win against the host team Iona, lead by a hat trick from Pietro Pasqua and a great outing from goaltender
Aaron Baboolal. In their second game of the year, the team had a chance to end the year at .500. The boys
took a 2-1 lead into the second half against a very strong team in Port Credit. They battled hard but let the
lead slip in the end as they lost the game 6-2. D‘Youville ended the year with a 2-4 record but gained
valuable experience needed to be a successful group in the upcoming season.
With most of the teams core intact for next year; including Vets: Jordan Arruda, Connor Phillips, David
Martino, Anthony Lima, Pietro Pasqua, Andrew Pecile, Claudio Gallippi, Justin Pereira and Rookies: Gregory
Cilgot, Marc-Robert Graham, Spencer Daily-Cooper, Mousa, Dennis Silva, Kyle Cleverly, Gabriel Alteri,
Ruvon Turner, and Parker MacDonald the team is poised to make a impact next year. The goaltending duo
of Aaron Baboolal and Cole Cleverly guarded the cage to the best of their ability and showed great strides in
their development.
The team would like to wish the best of luck to departing players Daniel Vozza (10), Julian Crescenzi (12),
and Massimo Rizza (13), as they leave the school and move on to the next chapter of their lives. Coaches
McMullen and McAllister would like to congratulate the boys on a great season and look forward to next
year.
