The 3 meeting of the 9 Senate of the Student Government Association of Western Kentucky
University was called to order at 5:02pm on Tuesday September 14, 2010 with the Speaker of the
Senate in the chair.
There were 16 Senators present.
Absent Senators were George, Johns, Karmiller, Powell, Riggs, Wright.
The minutes from September 7, 2010 were approved.
Officer Reports
President – Colton Jessie
 Attended Council of Post-Secondary Education (CPE) Conference this weekend.
o Met all university Presidents there
 Guest Speakers will be coming to Student Senate Meetings
o September 28, 2010 President Ransdell (President of WKU)
o October 5, 2010 Ross Bjork (Athletic Director)
o September 28, 2010 Sharon Ersey (Counseling and Testing Center Representative)
 Friday September 17, 2010 speaking at the Pep Rally
o Saturday’s game is a Red Out (First 2,000 students receive a Red Out t-shirt)
 Thursday September 16, 2010
o Project Affect taking place between Minton and DUC 11am-2pm
o Student Involvement Fair taking place at Centennial Mall 11am-2pm
o SGA has a booth at both of these events. Please try to stop by.
 Presidential Appointments will occur later.
Executive Vice President – Kendrick Bryan
 SGA Fan Raiser: please suggest for your friends to this Facebook page
 SGA online Town Hall meeting will be taking place all month. Please try to make a post.
 ICSR is hosting SGA’s Fall Retreat on October 2, 2010 in Garrett
 Working on Dine with Decision Makers. This event will probably take place in December.
Administrative Vice President – Wade Pierce
 $255.48 was spent today to purchase 250 Blue Books, 500 green Scantrons, 500 brown
Scantrons.
 Please attend the booths on Thursday that President Jessie mentioned.
Speaker of the Senate – Austin Wingate
 Bills are due each Tuesday by 3pm. This is a firm deadline. No late bills will be accepted for the
agenda.
 Reminder to all committee chairs: Attendance to these meetings is mandatory – please be
reporting your attendance to Speaker Wingate and Secretary Stillwell. Also remember to record
attendance and meeting minutes in the binder provided at the SGA front desk.

Staff Reports
Chief of Staff – Charlie Harris


Currently working to set up election on TopNet.
Western Wednesdays have been finalized. Please check out the SGA website for a complete list
of which restaurants will be giving discounts on Wednesdays to students who are wearing WKU
apparel.
 Office hours are officially posted. Please stop by if you have questions and/or concerns.
Public Relations Director – Jessica Wurth
 Working on brochure that will be completed for information booths on September 16, 2010.
 Provide-A-Ride advertisements will soon be developed as well.
Director of Academic and Student Affairs – Billy Stephens
 Reminder to Senators: Please attend committee meetings.
Director of Information Technology – Cory Dodds
 Continuing to move forward with the website redesign.
Committee Reports
Academic Affairs Committee– Brandon Logan
 Still working to make improvements to applications for both Scholar Development Grants and
Study Abroad. These applications in their current form are available on the SGA website.
 Suggestions for how to improve the process of administering scholarships/grants are
appreciated.
 New ideas are being formulated to help students to pay for GRE, MCAT, LSAT, PCAT, etc.
Campus Improvements Committee– Kaylee Egerer
 Some legislation up for second read.
 Picnic with President Ransdell was a true success.
o President Ransdell suggested squirrel feeders to be placed on campus to better care for
the “albino” squirrels on WKU’s campus. These animals are unique and a significant part
of WKU.
 Some Greek organizations have requested assistance on paying for recycling services.
 Campus Improvements Committee Meeting will be held directly after Senate at the end of the
hallway.
Legislative Research Committee– Eileen Forsythe
 Bill 02-10-F has the support of LRC committee and should be moved to unfinished business.
 Meetings will be held at 5pm in SGA Office (DUC 130) on Thursdays.
Public Relations Committee – Ann-Blair Thornton
 Bill is up for second read.
 Those who are still interested in PR committee are invited to attend. Meetings will occur at
5:30pm on Thursdays.
 Ideas are coming in about SGA apparel.
 Will continue to work on “Party in the SGA” video.
Student Affairs Committee – Emmy Woosley
 Please attend the meeting immediately following Senate in the SGA Office (DUC 130).
Special Orders
Senate Executive Committee Report – Charlie Harris
 Approval is needed to continue to serve on this committee. Would appreciate the votes of
everyone.
 Attended quite a lengthy meeting in which general education requirements were discussed. The
committee would like to see general education requirements transfer smoothly to other in-state
institutions provided that they meet 3 of 5 requirements.
Judicial Council Report – Dajana Crockett
 Emails were sent to those Senators who are up for judicial review due to non-attendance.
 Please remember to email Secretary Stillwell and Speaker Wingate with a valid excuse is a
mandatory meeting is missed.
 September 21 and 22, 2010 will be the Fall 2010 Senatorial Elections on TopNet.
 Election candidates will be approved.
 Meetings are 4pm on Fridays.
Bowling Green City Commission Report – Colton Jessie
 BG City Commission voted to close 14th Ave to continue development
 An ordinance passed that stated work could begin on a hotel.
Old Business
Organizational Aid Appointments – Wade Pierce
 7 students have agreed to serve on the Organizational Aid Board.
 It is time to begin giving money to organizations.
Senator Stillwell asked for further clarification on Appointee Melcher’s qualifications.
Senator Egerer motioned to blanket vote to approve all 7 Organizational Aid Board appointments. The
motion did pass.
All 7 appointees were approved unanimously.
Speaker Appointments – Austin Wingate
 Parliamentarian Christina Davidson.
Appointee was approved unanimously.
 Secretary Katie Stillwell.
Appointee was approved unanimously.
 Sergeant-at-Arms J.D. Shadburne and Kat Johns.
Senator Egerer motioned to table the selection for Sergeant-at-Arms to a time when Senator Johns was
in attendance. The motion passed unanimously.
Presidential Appointments – Colton Jessie
 University Senate Committee Appointees: Nathan Bishop, Charlie Harris, Travis Taylor
o Committee meets every other Thursday
o SGA is required to have 3 student representatives
 University Curriculum Committee Appointee: Micah Bennett
 Senate Executive Committee: Charlie Harris
Senator Egerer moved to blanket vote and approve all Presidential Appointments.
A point of information by Senator Shaw: these are appointments and are not in unfinished business.
Therefore, they cannot be voted upon today.
Senator Logan motioned to suspend the bylaws and place Presidential Appointments into unfinished
business. That motion did pass.
Senator Egerer motioned to blanket vote and approve all Presidential Appointments. That motion did
pass.
Senator Logan motioned to move back into the bylaws. That motion passed with one Senator in
opposition.
Bill 3-10-FA
Senator Forsythe motioned to have this bill constructively read. This motion passed unanimously.
Senator Egerer presented the author’s speech.
There were no technical questions.
Senator Hilderbrant motioned to suspend the bylaws and move bill 2-10-F into unfinished business.
Speaker Wingate then read Bill 2-10-F.
Currie Martin – President of AMA then spoke about the bill.
There were no technical questions for the author.
Debate on 2-10-F
Senator Shaw likes this idea – it will help to better promote SGA as well as provide students with
information about our current services.
Bill 2-10-F was approved unanimously.

o LRC meets in the SGA office

o SGA is on the front page of the Herald. Thanks to Mike Stunson who is doing a great job.
 Colton Jessie
o Attend the Pep Rally on Friday
o SGA will get keys for committee heads to avoid confusion as to where each committee
will meet
 Wade Pierce
o Organizational Aid interviews will begin Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of next
week. A new application has been uploaded.
 Kaylee Egerer
o Campus Improvements meets immediately following Senate.
 Austin Wingate
o 4pm-7pm is a cookout at Centennial Mall 9/15/2010.
 Emmy Woosely
o After Senate, Student Affairs will meet in the SGA office.
 Wade Pierce
o Hilltoppers vs. Hoosiers Saturday September 18, 2010
 Colton Jessie
o Working on providing food in the student tailgating area
Senator Egerer motioned to move back into the bylaws. This motion passed with one Senator in
opposition.
A motion to adjourn was made. The motion was seconded and passed.
The meeting adjourned at 5:37pm on Tuesday September 14, 2010.
