Nineteenth meeting of the tenth Senate was called to order at 5:02 pm on Tuesday March 20,
2012.
There were 31 senators present. Senator Mullins moved to approve minutes from last week.

President Billy Stephens
President Stephens: I am going to give Katie a chance to talk to you all.
Katie Stillwell: I officially resigned as of Thursday. I always took my position as a leader
seriously but my life as a student came first. I have not done so well in the classroom as of late
so I have had to withdraw from some things in order to get into law school. I hope to be a
resource for you all and would love to still be a part of SGA in any way I can. I am confident in
my replacement. Thank you.
President Stephens: Katie, thank you for everything you have done. We have a debate tonight
at 6:30 and all exec members will be debating. Please come out and show support. A lot of bills
are up for first read so please look over them.
Executive Vice President Kendrick Bryan
I am trying to get the SGA blog in the WKU app and I am discussing lottery reform with
Athletics.
Administrative Vice President Devon Hilderbrandt
Org-aid is down to its’ last $1,600 after the first reads go through. Now is the time to sign up if
you need org-aid. We have a bill for second read and we need passed today. Bill 10-11-S also
needs to be passed.
Speaker Kaylee Egerer
Please go to the debate tonight! It is good to see you all back. I am impressed with the amount
of legislation, let's keep it up.

Chief of Staff- Katie Stillwell
President Stephens: Eric Smiley is a former chief of staff under Kevin Smiley. I have asked him
to serve out the rest of semester. He will be up for approval next week.
Director of Academic and Student Affairs -Travis Taylor

I helped organize the NCAA viewing parties last week and they were a huge success. Thanks
also goes out to Travis, Mallory and Rachel so please thank them if you see them.
Director of Public Relations- Jane Wood
President Stephens: She has been racking up posters for the elections and for the baseball
game. If you are interested, Jane and Mallory will be going around soon hanging up posters if
you want to help.
Committee Reports
Campus Improvements-Keyana Boka
Tonight we have three bills up for first read and one for second. We will have a brief meeting
after Senate, please go to debate.
Public Relations- Mallory Treece
President Stephens: Look out for an email to discuss meeting times and to help Jane with the
posters.
Academic Affairs- Brittany Crowley
We will be meeting Thursday at 4:45 and we have a bill up for first read.
Legislative Research- Eileen Forsythe
My meeting will be Wednesday at 2 in the SGA office.

We will be having a brief meeting after Senate.

Unfinished Business
Bill 6-12-S: Funding for the Organizations Honors Abroad Alumni, Student Identity Outreach,
Alpha Epsilon Delta, Western Kentucky Communication Organization for Graduate Students,
and Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji)
Senator Shaw moved to have the bill constructively read. Passed.
Devon Hilderbrandt: This was one of the best groups we saw all year. All very deserving.
Senator Shaw: In the third whereas clause, should you capital transgender?
Devon Hilderbrandt: Yes, friendly.
Senator Patel: Should Fiji be in all caps?
Senator Johnson: No.
Senator Shaw: In the therefore clause, add “to these organizations” and then a period.
Bill passed.
Senator Newman motioned to move out of the by-laws and move Bill 10-11-S into unfinished
business. Three senators opposed and one abstained. Passed.
Bill 10-11-S: Funding to Support and Sponsor WKU Cares Tee Shirts
Senator Boka: Kelly brought this idea to me. Kelly would you like to talk about it?
Senator Booth: Sure, also I have the design of the t-shirt. A lot of our friends and family were
affected by the tornadoes. This was a good way to tie in the recent basketball success and help
out Kentuckians. It's $427 now instead of $350. The shirts are done and ready to be passed out.
Senator Crowley: It should be Bill 10-12-S instead of 11.
Senator Asbery: So we buy them and then sell them and the profits go to the Red Cross? It will
cost more to buy shirts then we can donate. Why don’t we just give all the money to Red Cross
instead?
Senator Shaw: It goes against our rules. In the purpose clause there should be a hyphen
between red and cross. Get rid of last whereas clause because this will be public record and
that is not very appropriate.
Senator Forsythe: Any friendly amendment change is up to you, you can make the changes or
not.
Senator Boka: I accept all of them but the friendly amendment to get rid of the GO TOPS!
clause.
Senator Patel: Will we sell these out of the SGA office?
Senator Boka: We are working with Mallory about how to get the word out.
President Stephens: We will give you all a few days before we go public so you can get shirts
first.
Senator Johnson: I support this but I caution spending money before voting on a bill.
Senator Boka: To keep it recent we had to move fast and it is for a good cause.
Speaker Egerer: Friendly amendment: anywhere is says WKU change it to Western Kentucky
University.
One senator abstained. Passed.
Senator Patel motioned to move back into the by-laws. One senator opposed. Passed.

Announcements
Senator Crowley: There will be a guest speaker tomorrow, Brian Fagan, who is an expert on
climate change. This is sponsored by the Student Research Council for research week. The
research conference is this Saturday.
Kendrick Bryan: The job fair is tomorrow at Preston and over 50 employers will be there.
Speaker Egerer: Seniors can go from 11-12 pm.
Chief Justice Spalding: We need the election codes by Friday. I will be emailing them to
everyone.
Senator Mullins: Eat at Mancino’s tonight to support cancer research
President Stephens: We will be having a meet and greet at 6:10 before the debate tonight.
Senator Costa: I am putting Resolution 12-11-S on hold. I would like to say that I have full faith
that the University is interested in protecting students’ First Amendment rights. A third party has
come into the picture on this subject so we will wait and see what happens. We have been
invited back over the summer to work something out. I'll keep you posted.
Senator Egerer: Please leave your agenda so I can recycle them. Please take note of the new
SGA office.
Cory Dodds: The transcript voucher program is now up and running.
