TGJ 20 COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY LOYOLA CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL Open Course, 0.5 Credits, 8 weeks duration This course introduces students to communications technology from a media perspective. Students will work in the areas of TV/video and movie production, radio and audio production, print and graphic communications, photography, and interactive new media and animation. Student projects may include computer-based activities such as creating videos, editing photos, working with audio, cartooning, developing animations, and designing web pages. Students will also develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to communications technology, and will explore secondary and postsecondary education and training pathways and career opportunities in the various communication technology fields. To learn skills that will help you as a responsible adult later on in life: capturing vivid family and travel photos; editing them to enhance their features; documenting the process used; seeing the art within the technology; To gain insight into the career destinations associated with communications technology To learn technical skill in using digital cameras; To learn technical skill in using the Photoshop software package (through Photoshop Elements) To have a fun elective on your timetable that will energize you and provide you with a creative outlet The Assessment Dufferin Peel CDSB Assessment Criteria: 70% Term Mark consists of Independent Activities, Assignments, Quizzes and Tests 30% Final Assessment consists of 30% culminating task (completed during class time) and 0% examination. Please note: our Board Policy is to not have any examination in Communication Technology; however, this means that the Culminating Task Assignment is worth a very large percentage of the final mark. Students must be present in class to complete the Culminating Task. It cannot be completed outside of school. The designated Culminating Task dates are: June 2-6th; June 9-13th; June 16-17th; and, on our exam day, June 18th, you will be presenting your portfolio of work for Communications Technology. I included the University branding (logo information) as well as snapshot photographs from Sarah’s travels. I wanted to reflect the “natural” characteristic of her work as an adventurous woman who writes and travels—so I mimicked the sky and desert horizon in my typeface. I completed this poster layout using the Adobe Photoshop program. 3
