The Burke Bulletin Newsletter
Summer Student Edition 2015
Welcome back to school! In a
couple of weeks you will be entering
third grade. My name is Mrs. Burke,
and I am so excited to have you in
my class! I am looking forward to
being your teacher and making your
third grade year fabulous, exciting,
and challenging.
I hope you had a fantastic
summer. I am sure you have a lot of
stories and adventures to share
with me, and I can’t wait to hear
them all! On the first day of
school, I would like you to bring in a
special summer artifact in a small
paper bag. This item could be a
picture, a swim cap, a postcard, or
anything that is a reminder of a
summer memory! Make sure you
are able to tell your classmates and
me about the item and why it is
special.
On the back of this
newsletter, you will find what to
bring on the first day of school, as
well as our daily and Encore
schedules. It might be helpful to
hang this up on your refrigerator
to refer to the first couple of
weeks. They are also posted on our
website.
Reading every day is
important. Please make sure that
you have a great novel going as the
summer comes to a close. We will
spend some of our time reading and
chatting about our books on the
first day of school, so please bring
at least one book to read during
Independent Reading time! Don’t
forget to also bring a healthy
(peanut-free) snack to school daily!
We will write every day in class
as part of Writer’s Workshop.
Please designate one composition
book as your writer’s notebook.
I ask that you decorate the cover
(front and back) of this notebook
(due 9/15). You can use photos,
magazine clippings, print outs of
your favorite things from the
internet, or even stickers to
decorate it to your liking. You want
to make it personal to prepare you
for a great year of writing.
I would love to hear from you
before school starts. My email
address is aburke@rtmsd.org. In
the meantime, be sure to check out
our classroom website. Here you
will find information about me, our
class, fun websites to visit, and you
can even sneak a peek at our class
list (after 9/3).
