He fulfilled Your will by becoming man and giving His life on the Cross. Help us to bear witness to You by following His example of suffering and make us worthy to share in His resurrection. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son. VIRTUES PROGRAM - MARCH ~ KINDNESS This month we will celebrate the virtue of kindness. God has given us the gifts of friends and companions to keep us company and to help us out along the way. Every person in our lives carries the Spirit of God - and so every person is our brother or sister through Jesus Christ. As brothers and sisters who share one Holy Spirit, we are all valuable to God. We all deserve to be shown concern for our welfare and our feelings. We have all been given the fruit of the Spirit called kindness. Kindness can only be seen through actions. It’s not enough to say I will be kind or I am kind. We must show that we are kind by our words and our actions. Through prayer and concentration, we can get better at showing kindness to everyone we meet. A Kind Person… Says nice things about others so they feel good about themselves Sticks up for people who are picked on or need help Refuses to join others who are insulting, intimidating, mean or hurtful Watches and looks for ways to help those in need *All virtue information has been added to the front pages of your child’s agenda.* A number of our students continue to arrive late daily. In some instances, it is the same students arriving after 9:00 am without parental accompaniment. This is a safety concern for us. Any student arriving after 9:00 am is considered late and should be accompanied by an adult. Please make every effort to have your child/ren at school on time. When a child is late, they not only miss opening prayer and the anthem, but they also miss valuable teaching time. Late arrivals cause disruption to the other students and also to the teacher who may have already begun his/her lessons for the day. Developing good work habits and time management skills can maximize a child’s learning potential. Let’s work together to develop these skills! PICKING YOUR CHILD UP EARLY? Please send a note to your child’s classroom teacher if you are picking your child up early or making changes to your child’s regular plan for dismissal. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL AFTER 2 PM WITH THESE CHANGES. It is very disruptive, and difficult for us to ensure all of these messages are delivered near the end of the school day. Your cooperation with this is appreciated. Parents in the Yard For your child’s safety we request that he/she not be left on school property until supervision begins at 8:30 a.m. Please do not drop your child off at the school prior to 8:30 a.m. We would also like to remind you that parents should drop off/pick up their children outside the school gates. Parents are not permitted to be in the school yard at any time. Although you may be known to your own child you are a stranger to the other students in the yard. Thank you once again for honouring this request! FDK Parents/Guardians, If your child(ren) will be late for school please bring your child(ren) to the main office . You will not be able to access the FDK outside doors to enter the classroom. Snack and Treats for Students As communicated many times throughout the year, several students in our school suffer from a severe food allergy to all nuts, peanuts, all nut products and latex. There is also a Ministry PPM where the purpose of this memorandum is to set out nutrition standards for food and beverages in publicly funded elementary schools in Ontario. For more information about the new PPM please visit, http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/extra/eng/ ppm/150.html. If you would still like to do something special for your child’s classroom during a special event, we continue to recommend a small non-edible gift for each student or perhaps a classroom gift, i.e. board game for inclement recess, may be a great alternative. Again, we thank you for your co-operation! LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES We will be having a second round of official lock down drills in the next several weeks. This drill is to prepare students and staff for the unlikely eventuality that a dangerous person is in the school. At a signal, the teachers lock the classroom door and students sit on the floor away from doors and windows. Board policy requires two such drills a year. We hope we never need to use this process but we want everyone to be prepared. EQAO Grade 3 and Grade 6 Testing Administration of the Primary (Grade 3) and Junior (Grade 6) Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, 2016 will be held May 25 to June 8, 2016. Specific dates will be forthcoming. We ask that parents/guardians do not book any doctor or dentist appointments during this time to ensure that your child is present during test taking times. Are you MOVING? To help us with our planning for next September, it would be appreciated if you could let us know now if you will be moving out of our school area over the summer. If you know of any families moving into the area with children who plan to attend Christ the King, it would be helpful if you could alert us. The more information we have, the better we are able to organize staff and students for September. In the absence of accurate information, schools often have to reorganize classes in September due to unexpected fluctuations in population. FLEXIBLE BOUNDARY PROCEDURES A reminder to parents/guardians of students who are at Christ the King School under the “Flexible Boundary” policy, that the procedure is reviewed annually and permission is granted under the following conditions: ¨ Transportation is your responsibility. The Board will not provide either transportation or additional supervision for students admitted under this procedure. ¨ Students admitted under this procedure do not automatically become eligible for the secondary school serving the school. A separate request must be made to the secondary school principal. If you would like to continue to be granted permission under this procedure for the 2016-2017 school year, please submit your request in writing by April 1, 2016. Eco Team Every Wednesday is Litterless Lunch. Here are some Tips on how to pack a Waste Free Lunch : · A reusable lunch bag or box (not a throw-away, single-use plastic or paper bag). · Reusable containers for packing food (no plastic wrap, foil, plastic bags, single-serving containers, prepackaged foods). Hard plastic food containers or reuse of plastic tubs are suitable options. · Reusable drink containers e.g. thermos, or reusable bottle. Recyclable containers: single-use pop cans, water bottles, juice boxes are discouraged but acceptable as long as the student ensures they go into the recycling bin. · Non-disposable cutlery (silverware) and a cloth napkin Thank you to everyone for participating in the Waste Free Lunch Challenge. We will continue to keep you updated on our school results. EARTH HOUR On March 29, hundreds of millions of citizens, from one hundred different countries, will switch off the lights. World Earth Hour is the largest call for action on climate change in history and continues to grow every year. World Earth Hour has become a global sustainability movement and will be followed by many more green initiatives for Earth Day led by CTK’s ECO Team! Big Crunch/Gulp March 10th The Big Crunch is an annual FoodShare initiative- an event for all ages in which food literacy and healthy eating are promoted. On March 10th , all students will be together in the gym enjoying a “mystery spring veggie” for the BIG SPRING CRUNCH (provided by the school) and their own reusable water bottles for the BIG GULP Tuesday - Lights out at Lunch Wednesday - Litterless Lunch Thursday - Trashless Thursday Friday - Boomerang Lunch Hockey Day at CTK The Teachers and Peel Police vs. Students ball hockey game was, once again, a fantastic event. A heartfelt ‘thank you’ goes out to CTK’s staff, retired teachers (Mrs. Mastrangelo and Mr. Masson) and Neighbourhood Police Unit officers Adrian and Paul who arranged for six fellow officers and their Staff Sergeant to join us on this funfilled afternoon. Due to the extreme cold temperatures, the game was held indoors this year. Mr. Morra and his Tech Crew provided music and play by play game coverage throughout each game. Thanks also go out to Mrs. Michisor, Mrs. Colaco, Mrs.. Viloria, Mrs. Marques, Mrs. Scialdone and Mrs. DeLaCruz our parent volunteers who came out to make hot chocolate for the students to enjoy after each game.
