Iona Catholic Secondary School HPC 3O1 Grade 11 Parenting Open Course Outline Course Description This course focuses on the skills and knowledge needed to promote the positive and healthy nurturing of children, with particular emphasis on the critical importance of the early years to human development. Students will learn how to meet the developmental needs of young children, communicate and discipline effectively, and guide early behaviour. They will have practical experiences with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and learn skills in researching and investigating questions relating to parenting. Students will learn through activities, group assignments, role-plays, text readings, individual assignments, media reports, and videos. Missed Test Policy a) Students who have previous knowledge that they will be absent for a test must notify the instructor prior to the test so that an alternate time to write the test can be arranged. b) Any student who is absent on the day in which a test is being written is expected to write the test on the day of return from the absence or on the day and time specified by the course instructor. If the absence is for an extended period of time, on the day of return, the student must make alternate arrangements with the course instructor to schedule a day to write the test.
