Program Level Outcome (PLO) Assessment Report Summary
Program Level Outcomes for Administration of Justice:
Upon successful completion of the Administration of Justice Associate's Degree program, a
student should be able to:





analyze the United States legal system, describing the sources of law, the branches of
government, and the federal and state court systems.
analyze cases to ascertain legal precedents and apply them to hypothetical fact
patterns.
demonstrate effective law enforcement report writing skills.
compare and contrast legal and illegal narcotics and dangerous drugs.
select and apply the appropriate peacekeeping strategy in a multicultural community.
What we looked at:
ADJ analyzed the first PLO, which states: analyze the United States legal system, describing
the sources of law, the branches of government, and the federal and state court systems. We
used a brief survey to address the various components of the PLO, and had the ADJ students
graduating with a Degree in spring take it. The students self-identified as second-year students
that will be graduating in spring 2014 with a Degree in ADJ.
What we found:
We found that 72% of self-identified graduating ADJ students demonstrated mastery of the
components of PLO 1. This data confirms that students achieving the Degree have cumulated
basic knowledge and understanding of the US legal system, the US system of governance, the
federal and state court systems, the concepts of separation of powers, and the idea of checks
and balances.
What our next steps are:
We will assess PLO 1 again in spring 2014 and compare the data. Beginning in fall, 2014,
MOOCSICLE (MOOC: Student Information Center for Legal Education) will handle all SLO and
PLO assessments, which will make examining data, evidence, and report summaries more
organized and comprehensive.
