Review of Minutes from October 14, 2013 The 10.14.13 minutes will be provided to the committee in the next meeting. 2. SLO Mapping and Calendaring Activity Cheryl updated the Committee on the status of the SLO worksheets. All of the worksheets that were submitted to Kathy’s office were sorted to align course-level outcomes with program-level outcomes. Deans were notified which disciplines had not yet submitted worksheets. The next step, Phase II, is calendaring course-level assessments over a five-year period. Kathy sent an email to deans to ask them to communicate with faculty that the sorted worksheets were available in the R drive to begin the calendaring activity. The deadline for calendaring assessments is December 6. Cheryl informed the committee that once Phase II is completed someone from Kathy’s office will enter that info into the new software. SLO Minutes (10.28.13) 2 3. Website Project Members of the committee discussed the websites listed below. The focus was on content and “language” (for example, student-centered language). 1. Team East Los Angeles College: Kelly and Barbara Kelly and Barbara presented to the committee and shared the good and bad of this specific website. They mentioned that they liked the way the website has resources for different features as well as the left-hand side links. However, they could not find results. Under “Forms” they found a form where people can make a declaration they have a program. This website focuses on instruction. Reviewers of this website commented that they like the FAQ for students and the IGLOO pages. 2. Team Los Angeles City College: Rhea and Mary Mary reported to the committee that Los Angeles City College website has examples of rubrics and course level charts. She mentioned that she had trouble getting in. In addition, there are no results. The information provided is from 2009 with nothing recent. 3. Team Los Medanos College: Kelly and Rhea Kelly mentioned that something she liked about this specific website is that they publish results, they do not go into detail, they have one link, and it is very narrative. The PLO Assessment Report Summary page focuses on “What we looked at,” “What we found,” and “What we are planning to work on.” Some members of the committee mentioned that it was difficult to find SLOs using the search box. Members of the committee mentioned that the Los Medanos website is not that good but that they liked the way they report the results. 4. Team Palomar College: Carol and Peggy Carol and Peggy reported back about Palomar College website. They mentioned that SLOs are listed in a way that is easy for students to read and comprehend. They also liked the FAQ section. They mentioned that this particular website has a lot of information in Learning Outcomes Council. Members of the committee mentioned that this particular website does not have a program review that links to their SLOs. Every time members of the committee wanted to access a document, a TracDat alert appeared on the screen. They liked the FAQ; it had clearly written content. They did not find assessment results. This website is easy to use for students and is a neat-looking website that shows a lot of potential. 5. Team Santa Barbara City College: Carol and Melissa Carol and Melisa reviewed the findings of this website with the committee. They mentioned that they had trouble with the search box. They attempted to search for SLOs but could not find anything. Members of the committee reported they were not impressed with this particular website. Also, they talked about the Hartnell College Mission Statement Hartnell College provides the leadership and resources to ensure that all students shall have equal access to a quality education and the opportunity to pursue and achieve their goals. Members of the committee reviewed the new A&O Handbook that was approved at the last meeting. Cheryl reported that the Senate asked that the membership of faculty be increased, that it be clearly stated that the committee is a standing committee of the Academic Senate, and that certain positions be deemed as permanent members. They all agreed to the following; five faculty need to be appointed, needs to be identify as a standalone committee of Academic Senate, VP of Academic Affairs, Dean of LS&R, Dean of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness should be permanent, 40% reassign time for Faculty Outcome and Assessment Coordinator.
