We will read many books and create farm animals to further discussion. Toddlers will also explore farm animal puzzles during activity times. This month, take your toddler to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for them to see all the animals that we are learning about! The toddlers will use their fine motor skills as they decorate a paper plate with cotton balls to make a sheep. Toddlers will be exploring different tools to use while painting such as sponges, paintbrushes and their hands! Toddlers will also practice using glue sticks to decorate a horseshoe with different cut-out shapes. At home, explore books that focus on farm animals to practice animal recognition! Talk about the sounds, movements, and colors of the animals. This month we will practice being kind to each other throughout the day. We will also be encouraging the toddlers to use gentle touches with their friends and modeling what a gentle touch looks like. Younger toddlers will be encouraged to share and to find another toy when a friend is using the toy they want. At home, practice turn taking with your toddler and encourage gentle touches. The toddlers will practice their gross motor skills as they dance to “Animal Action I” from our favorite CD, “Kids in Motion.” As the children hear an animal action, they will make the movement and noise of the animal. Younger toddlers will also be practicing pulling themselves up and off the animal riding toys outside. During the weekend, you can take your toddler to a local park and have them practice getting on and off toys by themselves. This month the children will be practicing putting on their coats by themselves to go outside. At home, encourage your child to put their coat on by themselves and also encourage them to try zipping and/or buttoning it up.
