APRIL’S VIRTUE - LOVE
PRAYER FOR LENT
Dear God,
During this season of Lent,
May you help us to thank you for
the new life you gave
to our world and to our spirits.
To find your presence around us in the
sparkle of the sunshine,
a word given in encouragement,
and a smile shared in passing.
To open our hearts to your call.
To serve one another with
your loving compassion.
To have courage to ask for help
as we journey
and to know when we have gone
off the path.
To remember what Lent is all about
and to turn our lives toward You.
Amen

Please do not walk your children through the two Kiss

There is no parking in the driveway. This is a
fire zone and blocks the flow of traffic.

TRAFFIC SAFETY
Our school driveway is a matter of great concern in
regards to the safety of our students. Therefore, we are
reminding you again to use the Kiss ‘n’ Ride lane to drop
off or pick up your child. You cannot park your vehicle in
the Kiss ‗n‘ Ride lane before school or at dismissal time
during the day. When using the Kiss ‗N Ride program to
drop off or pick up students, please remember:




We clear the Kiss ‗N Ride usually in 10 minutes.
Please be patient we are all BUSY but SAFETY comes
first.
The inside lane (closest to the school) is the only lane
where cars can stop to drop off their children in the
morning and pick up their children in the afternoon.
Drivers should not be parking and leaving their
vehicle to walk to the school to pick up their child.
The outside lane is a drive thru lane. This means that
there should be no stopping and/or loading or unloading of students.
If your child is not at the Kiss ‗N Ride area at
dismissal time, please park in one of the spaces
available in the parking lot or circle around once more.
PEDICULOSIS
A problem which seems to occur at least once a year in
most schools is pediculosis or head lice. Head lice are parasites which have been common among human beings for
centuries. They are not connected in any way with dirt, neglect, and so on.
Anyone can be infested with them. Unfortunately, in recent
years, they have become quite common throughout North
America. In order to control these pests, we shall do the
following and request your full cooperation.
If even one case is found in the school, we shall inform all
parents of children in that class. We will be monitoring
friends and classmates, however, we ask that you also
check your own children and if you find them to be infested, please let us know so that we can help you get the
proper treatment and take the necessary precautionary
measures. Even if cases are not reported from the school, it
is a wise precaution to check your children periodically.
If your children are infested, we will be asking you to keep
them out of school until after they have been treated with
the correct shampoo and all nits have been removed. If we
all cooperate with these procedures, we may not entirely
escape outbreaks, but we will be able to bring them under
control quickly.

April 2013 Issue 6
It has been a very busy start to our second semester
and we are very proud to share with you all the exciting events and accomplishments we have achieved.
The Fraser Report, for the second year in a row, has
ranked St. Edmund Campion as the top rated co-ed
school in Brampton. We were also recognized as
being one of the top 20 fastest improving schools in
the Province. It is the efforts of all of our staff and
students that have allowed us to achieve these outstanding results.
take a field trip to see the ―Nutcracker Ballet‖ at the
Rose Theatre. Another major highlight is that all music students this semester will be given the good fortune of listening to guest speaker, Mr. Jeff Salem -- a
world renowned musician, drummer percussionist,
and educator.
Our grade 12 Dramatic Arts students performed in
the Sears Ontario Drama Festival at St. Marcellinus
S.S. and one of our senior students won an award of
Excellence for their written script. We are extremely
proud of our student‘s enthusiasm and passion.
Future Lawyers at Campion!
Black History Month
Black History Month was a true success. Our students were inspired and moved by the guest speakers
that presented and the special events that took place
throughout the month of February. Such efforts bring
meaning and time to reflect for many students. Guest
speakers for all grade levels included: Al. St. Louis,
Dewayne Morgan, Wes "MastroFresh" Williams,
and Duane "D.O" Gibson. In addition, every morning, achievements of African Canadians were shared
with the school during announcements, and our library and Bear Den display cases were adorned with
literature and artifacts from the African Diaspora.
Campion's Law Team has made it yet again to the
final four of our regional competition! We are the
only school to make it to the final four, five of the
last six years; a remarkable feat. Our team overall
placed third in the 11th Annual Regional. We must
have some future lawyers walking our halls.
Basketball
Our Love for the Arts
St. Edmund Campion‘s Tenth Anniversary Musical
Celebration will take place on April 25th and 26th
from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are only $5. Come out and
help celebrate Campion‘s historic day with a variety
of skits, musical numbers, and jam band performances! This may be a great opportunity for Grade
eight students to see all that the arts have to offer at
St. Edmund Campion.
Campion‘s Music Program is full of activity and in
high demand. Music students have had the opportunity to play at the following events: Awards Night,
our Social Justice Night in support of our trip to India, Principal‘s Meeting, Breakfast of Champions,
Community Christmas, and our traditional Christmas
Coffee House.
Not only have they participated in these live performances, they were also given the opportunity to
Our Senior Boys Basketball team did very well this
season. While at OFSAA, the basketball players represented our name with class. The boys made it to
OFSAA but despite losing in the quarter-finals what
made the event was the quick reaction of our young
men to an incident during our warm-up, where a gentleman in a seated rollator walker fell down near our
basket. Without hesitation all twelve players ran over
to help the gentleman get back up. This speaks to the
values and leadership qualities these young men
have and exhibit in being a part of our Campion
Community.

Our Faith – A Note from our Chaplain
Peace be with you!
This year, staff and students began the season of Lent
with a liturgy for Ash Wednesday. The theme of the
liturgy was Reconciliation: Accepting God’s Love for
Us by Accepting and Loving Ourselves. The liturgy
launched our Lenten school project of almsgiving: a
Penny Drive to raise money for the Knight‘s Table in
Brampton. Also, as a school we participate in a ‗Fast‘
each week for Lent. By Easter, we will have fasted
from junk food, inappropriate language and gossip.
Finally, over Holy Week we will perform ‗Random
Acts of Kindness‘ for each other. We will conclude our
Lenten Journey on Holy Thursday with a liturgy focused on a dramatization of God‘s unfailing love.
Several students and members of our staff will also
participate in ‗Share-Fast‘; a one day fast to raise
money for several charities in our area.
With Easter‘s promise of Resurrection and spring, our
school will celebrate our 10th Anniversary on April 3
through a school wide retreat day. We will begin the
day with an Easter Mass and a guest speaker, Fr. Tony
Ricard from New Orleans. All staff, students and
families from our feeder schools and members of our
parish are invited to join us at 7:00 pm in the evening
as Fr. Tony speaks to us about our precious Gift of
Catholic Education.
As the cold grip of this winter slowly releases us from
its icy grasp, we pray that all the families and staff
members of our feeder schools will enjoy the gradual
warmth and colours of spring, and a bright and hopefilled Easter!
God bless,
Mary Connor-Brooks
Joining Campion in the fall?
We are so excited to welcome our new group of Grade
9 students this September. Course Verification forms
were sent out to all of our feeder schools and we
would ask that if any changes need to be made you
complete this as soon as possible. Completed forms
must be returned to the Grade 8 teacher and teacher
will be forwarding them to the Guidance Department.
On Wednesday, April 10th our school will be hosting
an Advanced Placement Information Night. The
purpose of this evening will be to provide parents with
information about the Regional Advanced Placement
(AP) Program that is currently being offered at St. Edmund Campion. Please join us at 7 pm and hear more
about this amazing opportunity for your child.
We look forward to sharing more of our school‘s good
news and all of our upcoming events. In addition, we
encourage you to contact St. Edmund Campion S.S. if
you have any questions or would like to get involved
in any of the events mentioned above; please feel free
to call us at 905-846-7124.
