COOPERATIVE EDUCATION APPLICATION FORM BRAMPTON CIVIC HOSPITAL and ETOBICOKE GENERAL HOSPITAL Non-Clinical Placements – Winter 2013-14 October 2013 Students must be 16 years of age or older at the start of their co-op placement. A positive attitude, punctuality and commitment to placement are essential. During the interview students should be prepared to talk about what they hope to gain from their hospital experience. Students will be required to have their doctor complete a medical form and have a 2-step TB test completed BEFORE they begin their co-op placement. Please note that students will be working in an office environment within the hospital with limited patient interaction. They will be interacting with hospital employees, visitors and volunteers depending on their placement. Students placed in Volunteer & Community Resources will be provided with an additional opportunity to be placed in various other areas of the hospital working along side volunteers to expand their customer service skills and to experience patient/staff/visitor interaction. The purpose is to offer experiential learning opportunities for high school students to assist with decision-making regarding healthcare careers. Co-op students accepted into this program will proceed under the supervision of hospital staff and the co-operative education teacher. This privilege comes with responsibilities and expectations that are outlined in this profile. Department Profile The Volunteer & Community Resources Department (VCR) is responsible for recruiting, screening, interviewing and orientating volunteers for William Osler Health Centre and for maintaining/developing its volunteering program. There are currently 300400 volunteers assisting throughout the hospital, they comprise of adult volunteers, university/college and high school student volunteers. The turnover rate is high and many more volunteers pass through the department during the course of the year. The department is very busy with many active and perspective volunteers dropping in during the day. The Volunteer Association raises funds for much needed hospital equipment through the gift shop, lottery and other fundraising endeavors.
