Report of the SGA Executive
Report of the Legislative Vice President, Brock McMorran
I hope you all had a great week and had a chance to enjoy the weather!
1.) For those of you who may not have known, Morgan and I had the opportunity to
present at this year’s NACA Mid-America conference in Covington. Our session, which
was centered on the collaboration between Student Activities and Student
Government, had roughly 50 people in attendance! We received a lot of great
feedback and definitely had an enjoyable time!
2.) On Monday morning the University Parking Committee met and I have some good
news to report to you!
a. 237 more parking spots
b. No parking fee increases for FY ’12 – ’13
In addition to this, I have been asked by John Beres to serve on the University Parking
Technologies Committee.
3.) Lastly, some of you may have noticed that Crystal’s desk has not moved as I had
mentioned it would in last week’s meeting. Before this happens, I wanted to get some
more input from you all.
That’s all I have, but please if you have any questions, at any time, let me know.
I thought something was going to progress with making the office more open for students? I
thought this was something that should be done.
We are just going back to the drawing board. Thinking about the best way to go about this.
Could we just do a trial period?
If we did move Crystal’s desk, what could we do with the open space? Dustin and I (Ryan)
moved the desk to see how it looked. It didn’t make sense.
We could put couches there.
I think it’s good to open up the office, but going about it a new way. Put a committee together
to talk about how to make the office more open instead of just moving a desk.
CFJ couches are inviting.
Promo in empty space?
Why are we not using the big corkboard in the club space that faces out side, if that kind of a
space is a need?
I didn’t know we could use that space.

When you are looking at convenience store, are you looking at best pricing?
Friends of mine talk about how UC convenience stores are expensive.
We contacted many different vendors, the only vendor interested is Follett. I would be
interested in hearing about what your friends think. I think the price is comparable to Coffee
Emporium.
Do you know why vendors haven’t responded?
Not sure, we sent 70 RFI’s, one response.
Report of the Administrative Vice President, Lydia Gerlach
Please thank Ariana for the snacks! Next week, Jacquelyn is bringing a snack!!
Just one thing for my project update:
1.
LGBTQ Position: LGBTQ Training and Support Intern (LTSI)
I received confirmation today that Fr. Graham has no hesitations about the student
internship, which is great! With that said, I’ll tell you where the interview process is-we received five applications for the LTSI position. Interviews started Monday. The
committee reviewing the applications and sitting in on the interviews consists of Dustin
Lewis, Tamika Odum, Nia Williams, Brock McMorran, and myself. We will bring an
appointment decision to Senate this coming Monday as new business.
Do let me know me know if you have any questions.
Did you ever receive all the syllabi you were looking for?
Final total is only about 55.
I don’t think it’s possible to offer the position soon enough we could invite to workshop?
Something to consider.
Did you know Ana, of the syllabi received there was not much mention of religious
observances?

Report of the SAC Chair, Morgan Zuziak
Meeting with UC: Sunday November 20th meet in the SGA office at 11:30am. So far Sarah and
Blake are the only ones signed up – is there anyone else that would be interested in going? If
so please raise your hand now. Thanks.
Workshop: Make sure you are in the office by 4:30pm. You will not get a chance to go back to
your rooms so make sure you bring everything you need with you. I will be sending you a list
of general items you need to bring to workshop.
NACA: I had to pleasure of presenting with Brock at NACA – which went awesome as he
mentioned. It was a learning experience for the both of use because we got to not only share
how Xavier’s SGA is structured but we also got to learn about other schools. I also want to
give a big thanks to those of you who went to NACA – I appreciate all the hard-work, longdays and time you put in to booking some great events for us!
Holiday Project: I am passing around a sheet to sign up for SGA to adopt-a-family for the
holidays. Please sign it if you are interested.
Promotions: sugar and spice needs to be up tomorrow. Home for the holidays needs to be up
before thanksgiving.

We can pay students to do a service as long as we fill out the proper contract?
If she is a student will have to be put on payroll.
If someone is already on payroll, we don’t have to do it again?
Correct.

I hate SAC. Those were the words that came out of fellow Xavier students. Now why do you
hate SAC may I ask? Well the list went on something like this
·
·
·
·
·
I don’t know anything that SAC does
I am never in Alter or GSC so I don’t see the promo…..
Word of mouth is the best idea
Save your money on your small unattended events and put it towards a good
concert.
SAC is filled with all of the same people who clique together and don’t welcome
anyone
You need to know that when I first heard these comments I felt attached, hurt, and lost as I
felt that only one person could not possibly defend an entire board when……and I still don’t
agree with MANY of these points
It was hurtful when people thought that we really do just sit on our buts and does nothing.
When I heard these comments I immediately thought of all the times I have seen sacers
working so hard….like Whitney and Jacqueline running around frantically at mad hoping that
only the best event is put on, or matt spending hours putting a concert on not because he has
to but because he wants to and is passionate about it. I told these students that SAC is
anything but just a bunch of students sitting around and doing nothing
However, I did realize that they did have some points and some points that need to be
recognized by us. With workshop coming up I think that it is really important that we reflect
on what not only these students are saying, but what many of the student body feels. Why is
it that SAC, and the rest of SGA , gives off this vibe of being ‘better than others’ or that is
cliquey? How can we improve our promo and see that every student knows about our events?
How can we improve on events??
If you are thinking what I am thinking then its probably wow we have discussed all of these
things about a billion time….we have improved on our promo SO MUCH what more can we
do?? I don’t find us “clicky”…maybe these students should be more involved….not all fault
My point here is to remember who we are trying to serve on SAC. We are not trying to serve
only ourselves. When we have workshop discussions this weekend lets really try to put our
energy towards the students and think about better ways to improve in hopes that you
opinions can change!
And let me add that I feel that we are the best student organization on campus. I see so much
dedication here and I really had each and every one of your backs when I had our very own
‘sac attack.’

Blast from the Past
MAD: Friday Night. Thanks for all that helped. 447 people attended.
Did you know I think you handled it all really well, managed volunteers well?
Harry Potter: 10, 11, 12. People seemed excited to be there.
XIV.
Here and Now
Breaking Dawn this Thursday, more tickets available.
Would like to ask that we come up with a plan to sell extra tickets. We should not sell tickets
at the front desk.
Look at peoples office hours, table down stairs during those.
Maybe a second big blast of ticket sales
I think we should keep tabling for it. Sell at Hoff.
Keep in mind, you will still need to fill out a fundraiser form. Since you are talking about
selling tomorrow, you will need to get special permission.
Will we just eat the cost of the difference? Yes, I don’t know what else we can do.
AMC will be mad at us if we do not fill seats, even if we can’t make up the money, they could
have sold those tickets for more money.
I think best bet is to do something tonight. I will be there.
My (Brock) avdive would be not to just hand out tickets to us and our friends (reference
LeeAnns opinion entry).
Think it would fair to give out tickets if first we put up a good effort to sell the tickets.
Stress Relief Day: Still going on right now. If you see Kevin, thank him because he’s been
working really hard.
Mr. Muskie Apps due this Friday: Lots have apply, Invited your friends to apply.

Not much to report today, but a few things! We are still waiting to hear back about our lecture
proposal which expires this Friday at 5pm. If the agent rejects the proposal or does not
respond, we will be moving forward with our second plan. This week our committee has been
working on confirming judges, contestants, and MCs for Mr Muskie! Mr Muskie applications are
also due by Friday at 5pm, so if you know ANY able-bodied men that would be suitable for the
competition, please pass the word along! Thanks!!

Hey SAC! Thanks for all of your help at MAD this past weekend, we really appreciate it! I think
it was a great, magical success. We still have twilight tickets left, so please let everyone know
that may be interested and thanks for all the brainstorming to help with selling the rest of the
tickets. We are also working on the next MAD for January and will be coming to the board with
a proposal before the end of the year! The last think the have been working on is our
presentation for workshop and we are all very excited! Thanks!
If I Tweet this, when can People buy tickets?
I just talked to Mary Ballou, but I need a confirmation email to go ahead with the date.
Xavier XAC and Myself (Dustin) has just tweeted that they are available.

Hey guys we met with our last event on Sunday, from Life and Culture. We will be getting
those fliers up before Thanksgiving. Mr. Muskie the final promo will be ordered today so that
should be in soon. We are also working on things for the paper planes event, which include
contacting the XU television station and the Xavier today email to get more publicity for this
collaborative event.
