Kelsey McCarty Announced Resignation VI. Review of the Budget Crystal Guffey Handed out SAC Budget Report to all. Will bring one copy hereafter unless requested VII. Report of the SGA Executives Report of the Administrative Vice President, Lydia Gerlach Welcome back, SACers. I’m happy to see everyone back at Xavier—it was a little quiet without you all here. This summer, (as Ryan or Ricardo may have said) we put in hundreds of hours of work on both our platform and on other projects. But first, I went to tell you the most important stuff: SAC with snacks is back! Morgan brought some delicious cupcakes for us today, and I will be bringing cookies (and also veggies) next week. I’m going to pass around a sign-up sheet for snackage the rest of this semester. I’d like to give you a brief summary of some of the work I’ve done this summer (and please let me know if you have any questions at the end): 1. New SGA Logo As you may know, SGA is in the process of creating a new logo through the logo committee, which some of you are involved with. We have put in quite a bit of time and effort in starting from scratch. After going back to the drawing board several times over the course of the summer, we are finally close to finishing. We will be meeting in the next few days to make some final touches on a draft we currently have. Logo committee, if you haven’t responded to the new whenisgood I just sent out, please do. 2. “Develop greater technical support for students with Mac operating systems” Discovery Services Mktg internship: This platform project has been in the works since April. There is actually as much Mac support as there can be already on campus. Because there is a lot of unknown Mac-Support, this project has changed in nature to finding a way to help Discovery Services market all of its services in a way that will let students easily know and find out how to get the technological help they need. This project is currently under-way. 3. “Establish a permanent position for an LGBTQ advisor” This project has taken the majority of my time this summer. Because there was little documented research on this project, I began researching from the beginning. After contacting the majority of Jesuit schools in the nation, I learned how each university supported members of the LGBTQ community in a way that best fit their school’s culture. Based on my findings, it was clear that a new Safezone Training should be implemented in addition to having more research done on this topic. I’ll talk a little more next week about what the next steps of this project are. Alright, and that’s about it. Please don’t hesitate to ask me about anything SAC or anything SGA in general. Ricardo and my door is usually open. Outside suggestion: T-shirt of each rainbow color, giant picture of rainbow. Report of the Legislative Vice President, Ricardo Martinez Not Emailed Can we put an SGA flat screen where Ride Board use to exist? The existing TVs in GSC are ours to use. Report of the President, Ryan Alleman Welcome Back! I hope that all of you had a great summer and that your courses have gotten off to a very good start. It’s great to have everyone back and I am very excited for the year ahead! A couple of quick things that I wanted to mentioned today. I am passing around two copies of our updated platform progress. This provides a synopsis of the progress that was made on our Executive Projects this summer. This update will also be posted to the SGA website and will be sent over to the Newswire. If you have any questions about our progress or individual projects, please don’t hesitate to ask! Another important item – next week, the Executives will be presenting our plan for allocating this year’s roll-over allocation. As some of you may already know, this year we have a rather significant roll-over (roughly $50,000). You may also remember our conversation at the end of last year, in which both boards asked that the Execs present their plan upon return to school. Look out for that next week! Finally, one pretty fun note. By now, everyone is no doubt aware of the New Residence Complex. Maybe a few of you even live in it, and I hope that each of you has had the opportunity to try out the new and improved Hoff Marketplace. As you also know, the complex currently does not have a name. At the end of last semester, Father Graham, through Dr. Simons, asked CFJ and SGA to collaborate on a student-led effort to name the new complex, as well as the mezzanine within the complex and the bursar. This summer, Dave Johnson of Center for Faith and Justice and I worked together to craft a process for naming these three area; we have settled on a campus-wide vote. Beginning next week at Club Day, students, faculty and staff will be able to submit names in person, and on OrgSync. Those names, so long as they are consistent with the Jesuit Heritage and Mission of the University, will then be available the following week for voting. At the conclusion of the vote, CFJ and SGA will submit the Top 3 names for each facility to President Graham, who will make the final decision, just in time for Founders Day. Needless to say, I think this is a very exciting opportunity – and one that doesn’t come around every day. This is a great opportunity for students to leave their mark on campus and I hope that all of you will help to encourage participation. Moving forward, Dave and I could use all the help we can get – particularly at Club Day – so if any of you are particularly interested in this project, just let me know! That’s all for this week. Best of luck as classes begin and I’m glad to have everyone back! VIII. Report of the SAC Chair, Morgan Zuziak Summer Update: SGA Late Night Manresa event – Pirates of the Caribbean 4 with popcorn and sno-cone. Updated the SAC/SGA website – check it out if you haven’t already. Just a reminder that your mailboxes are all ready and you should be checking them! Also, the closet is cleaned and organized and I expect it to stay that way throughout the year. Please be mindful of this when you take things out of the closet and when you store things for your events in there. Committee Chair Conference Budget Call Proposals through September 17th have passed NACA Showcase Selection Committee NACA Presentation T-Drive: Please raise your hand if you know what the T-drive is and how to access it! T-drive is where we store all of our documents and it can be accessed on an off-campus. [Show how to access T-drive] Reminders: Just a reminder please let me know if you will not be at a SAC meeting 24 hours in advance! Also, proposals are due 3 weeks before an event. For those of you who are new you’ll learn more about proposals at Workshop! Proposals due next week: Multi-Cultural Food Fair, LNM, MAD, XU’s Got Talen Prelims. These are due to me by Monday. Workshop: Just a reminder that Workshop is this weekend! It starts on Saturday from 9:00a.m. – 7:00p.m. and ends on Sunday from, 10:30a.m. – 12:30p.m. for returners and 1:00p.m. for 1st year SACers. StrengthsQuest: I am passing around the StrengthsQuest codes just in case you have not looked at my e-mail that I sent out last night – that way you can write down your code if you have not taken it within the past 6 months. Can you please raise your hand if you have taken it within the past 6 months meaning that you will opt out of retaking it that way I can save the code!? Office Hours: I know we had a discussion about office hours during workshop, however, after careful thought and consideration in my opinion I feel that we need to be held accountable for the work we are doing and therefore we are going to use OrgSync to log in our office hours. [Show how to log office hours in on OrgSync] Leadership team has done this all summer and we are going to continue to do this as well. I am passing around a sheet where you all must sign up for one office hour that you will serve each week between the hours of 8am – 7pm. If you serve more hours than this, I encourage you all to update that on OrgSync. It’s actually really cool to see how many hours you put in after a couple months. Still need to sign up for OrgSync: o Analisa o Lauren o Christine o Sarah o Katie S. MAD: Please sign up to volunteer for this MAD. I know it’s the 1st weekend back at school and we have Workshop the next morning but LNP literally needs EVERYONE to volunteer all night. IX. Report of Advisor, Dustin Lewis I have no Senate Minute for this week because the Senate is not in session yet. I want to first off welcome everyone back to campus and tell you how glad I am to see all of you here again with SAC! We’ve got an awesome Fall lined up and I look forward to working with all of you to help execute your events over the coming months. That being said, SAC has a lot going on in these first couple of weeks and I want to encourage you all to sign up, attend and participate as much as you can – SAC is ready to hit the ground running and I hope you are as well! I wanted to note a few things that I worked on this summer for you to better understand what I did while you were away. First off, I planned the Week of Welcome over the summer which has 66 events sponsored by 45 different departments and clubs this week. I hope all of you stop by some WoW events and enjoy the great free food! Over the summer, Crystal, Morgan and I worked on the Club Space and purchased more items for the space as well as designed signage and implemented policies regarding the Storage Room. The club space is getting a lot of use now – I hope you all take advantage of it as well. Over the summer, I hired and trained Crystal – please welcome her to SAC and SGA. Morgan and I worked on redesigning the SAC website – please take a look and let us know what you think! Right before Crystal joined us, I worked on all the club recaptures and rollover bringing around $60,000 back to SGA for rollover this year. One of the major projects this summer was rolling out OrgSync. I hope all of you are now in the system and starting to explore/take advantage of everything OrgSync has to offer us. Finally, Family Weekend is one of my ongoing and upcoming projects. Family Weekend will be October 21-23 this year and I hope all of your families can come to campus and meet all of us! Just a reminder, Club Workshops are this week at 5pm in the GSC Clocktower Lounge. If you’re available and interested, you are definitely encouraged to attend. OrgSync Trainings end on Thursday – I’m really glad that many of you have been taking advantage of these trainings and hope more SGA members will attend on Thursday. Club Day will be on Monday from 10am-2pm. Please make sure to let Brock know if you are able to work the SAC/SGA tables. X. Report of the SGA Resource Assistant, Crystal Guffey I want to thank you all for the warm welcome to Xavier. I’m happy to be here and wanted to further introduce myself. Committee Reports Campus Traditions, Sarah Richardson Over the summer I finalized the date for Mr. Muskie to be Wednesday Dec. 7, with rehearsal dates on Dec. 5 and 6 in the GSC Theater. Although these dates were not ideal, we would really like to try Mr Muskie in the fall semester and we will work with what we can get in the theater! Also, the banquets rooms in Cintas have been reserved for the Fall Ball on October 28. Katie and I worked on ordering buses for the WEBN Fireworks show over Labor Day weekend, and that event is ready to go. Concerts, Matt Morefield Skipped Financial Affairs Committee, Jim Reitenbach Hey everyone, I hope you had a great summer. I will quickly explain what Elizabeth and I worked on over the summer. We allocated everyone’s budgets and then e-mailed them out to every club and organization. Then we were able to put the special request form onto orgsync. Also, towards the end of summer we e-mailed every club or organization again and sent them their recaptured funds and their current club balances. Late Night Programming, Leeann Scherbauer Hi SAC! MAD is on Friday and thank you for everyone who has signed up to help. We could not do it without you!! Late night movie that is coming up is Bridesmaids and Late Night Gaming is being discussed. Thanks!! Life & Culture, Analisa Condon Life and Culture: Thank you to my committee for staying on top of everything over the summer. I really appreciate that. Beach Water Park is scheduled for Sept. 10th. We are finishing up details for that this week. Our next big event is the Multicultural Food Fair. This event will consist of a lot of planning. I have been in contact with Kevin and Katie about it. Finally, Kathy Griffin has canceled her show in Cincinnati. It is a bummer, but we are looking to use our money now somewhere else. Thanks! Analisa Publicity, Annette Frac Over the summer my committee and I spent time developing the SGA flier which was put in all the Manresa folders. We have gotten a start on the promo for upcoming events as well. During workshop we will be explaining a little more on how our committee is planning to work. Until then just let me know if you have any promo requests. XVI. Closing Sentiments Cynthia Bear on vacation/sent pictures in her absence/given to Matt Morefield & LeeAnne: Best memory of the summer?
