ACADEMIC SENATE
Academic Senate Resolution 1.15
Support the Formation, Funding and Proposed Functionality of the STEMART Laboratory.
Whereas processes for institutional planning and budget development are part of the Academic Senate’s
“10+1” areas of academic and professional matters; and
Whereas the Academic Senate consults collegially in the development of educational programs;
Whereas exercising the symbiotic relationships between disciplines is vital to the growth and innovative
development of cutting edge instruction;
Whereas cooperative learning models have proven the high value of a facility such as a lab toward
providing a means for instructional success;
Whereas giving the content of information a physical form is recognized as one vital, but neglected,
aspect of STEM instruction that a STEMART Lab would address;
Whereas after a certain high level of technical skill is achieved, science and art tend to coalesce in
esthetics, plasticity, and form; and
Whereas the proposed facilities master plan has educational space for such a lab in Building J;
Therefore, be it resolved that the Academic Senate supports the proposed plans for a STEMART
laboratory.
