June 2014 will be Power Session for this year during Extended PD offerings. Power Sessions will be expanded to include middle and high school alignment for social studies and science. Day will be paired with Health & Wellness training for all all elem staff and the middle/high school health/PE teachers. In Feb 2014, new CAPSTONE for the Arts was announced for Barren County. Additional dialogue with WKU was held in spring about AG Capstone & ways to enhance program that has struggled as of late. BAVEL is exploring DUAL CREDIT opportunities across the state for access of virtual students in other parts of state. BCMS and BCHS are fortunate to have the services of guidance counselors earmarked to work with ECE students. These counselors assist with ARC meetings, ILP development, and transition needs. This year, the counselor at the HS and one of our school psychologists met each month with senior ECE students to further discuss career opportunities and transition needs. Guest speakers were utilized as a part of the meetings. BCHS staff have studied and plan to implement a period in the day to allow for further ILP develop, student advisement, and RtI to address any student needs. Additional ILP training has occurred at secondary level. New amended ILP process (ILP-A) for students who are going to alternative school settings. Staff have had initial training on process to be implemented in 2014-15. During the course of the year, teachers identify needed accommodations for various tests, based on IEP accommodations, and identify staff to administer the accommodations to individual students. Staff are then trained using the Inclusion Regulation Assessment Training Regulation from KDE. Additional STEM opportunities have been implemented at elementary, middle and high school levels. District committee was formed to study available programs and determine maximum benefits for the most students/programs. In April, committee recommended Edgenuity be implemented. In May 2014 Board approved contract allowing all students in grades 6-12 at all campuses to access on-line curriculum. PD for implementation is planned for May 20, 2014, with follow-up planned for summer. School & district implementation team is being formed in order to best established program. Every school in the district, with the exception of BCHS, implements and has been a part of KyCID. Training by KyCID staff, as well as district staff, in PBIS strategies has been on going for several years. Updates are provided to staff annually. This districtwide program allowed students to use the 95210 challenge as a way to earn tickets for a monthly drawing, and the school wellness committee members met in a district wide committee to plan activities for the students in addition to professional development provided by A Healthier Generation. Promotional signs and materials have been posted in each school. Some schools had a family nights focused on this wellness plan in addition to districtwide celebrations of National School Lunch Week, National Breakfast Week, and Every Kid Healthy Week. During National School Lunch Week, Dr. Phillip Bale spoke on the importance of sleep to 300 community members and high school students. 2013-14 was a pilot year for PGES so partially implemented in pilot schools. Full implementation will begin in 2014-15. Red Cross, Park City & North Jackson - have implemented Leader In Me; Eastern Elem is scheduled for implementation in 2014-15. Grants have been sought to implement district-wide but have not been awarded. District student council is implemented across district. Elementary Magnet program has helped implement Leadership further (Austin Tracy Leadership program). Ambassadors have been utilized at high school level. By schedule, GALLUP was not completed in 2013-14. Consideration will be given for 14-15 - however with additional surveys for PGES, this activity may be changed to only use of Student Voice Survey provided by state. Activity continues from plan to plan; district support is aligned to school annually. Discussion and research continue; PD 360 was utilized with success in Spring 2014 with staff hired after first of year & those needing additional hours. New CEP has been developed and approved by Board of Education. KDE has plan for review/approval. After KDE returns plan and adjustments will be made. Many activities completed, however activity will need to be continuous throughout upcoming years. Evaluation committee worked in March & April to develop the new CEP for consideration by the Barren Co Board of Education. The plan was presented to the Barren Co Board of Education on May 8, 2014. Plan has been submitted to KDE for approval. Any suggestions or changes will be addressed by 50/50 committee in June. District participants were able to continue in roles through out the year. Participation was key to district leadership and work during spring 2014.. If network opportunities exist for 2014-15, additional staff will be encouraged to attend.
