Receive and assess requisition. 1. Correctly processes requisition information. B. Physical facility readiness. 1. Gather appropriate supplies: (P) a. a cassette sizes b. markers, aprons, and gloves c. contrast material needed d. compressions device e. linens f. emesis basin g. calipers h. air phosphate crystals i. glucagon or probathine (if needed) j. Properly set up fluoro controls and radiographic table C. Locate and identify patient. 1. Demonstrate proper patient selection and self introduction processes. (Ck) (A) D. Assess patient condition. 1. Properly assist patient to the X-ray table. (P) E. Prepare patient for exam. 1. Properly explain the procedure to the patient. (Ce) (A) 2. Ask appropriate questions concerning previous exams, symptoms, surgeries and diseases. 3. Position patient accurately for exam. 4. B.E. Exam-rectal tip insertion. Administer the contrast material (barium only) to patient as directed by the radiologist. (P) NOTE: Students are not allowed to administer contrast for IUP/IVP or myelography examinations! 4. Utilize identification materials properly (R&L markers, name plates). (p) 5. Properly process imaging plate. (p) G. Image critique. 1. Evaluate finished image.
