COURSE DESCRIPTION
The health and physical education curriculum has been designed to provide learning
experiences that will help students realize their potential in life. Students will develop:
– an understanding of the importance of physical fitness, health, and well-being, and the
factors that contribute to them;
– personal commitment to daily vigorous physical activity and positive health behaviours;
– the skills and knowledge they require to participate in physical activities throughout
their lives.
The Large Group Activity will have a soccer focus specifically designed for students who
wish to pursue soccer at a post-secondary level at the university/collegiate, competitive, or
professional levels. Students will continue to explore and improve their technical, tactical,
and game play ability and understanding. A fitness component emphasizing health and
skills related fitness will be integrated into the course using community facilities and
resources. Students will gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to maintain a
healthy lifestyle through the investigation of personal safety/injury prevention, nutrition, and

Legitimate Absences and /or Non-Participation
An absence or non-participation is considered legitimate if a student had a good reason not to attend or participate,
as defined by the Education Act and your teachers.
In all cases students will require some form of documentation to explain their absences or non-participation,
usually in the form of a doctor's note, an official court document or a note from a parent or guardian.
In the case of non-participation or an absence for more than three days you MUST obtain a medical certificate or
official documentation stating the reason for your absence or non-participation.
If an absence is not justified, students will not be allowed to make up work, tests and assignments missed until
such time that a student can justify that absence.
Students are responsible for work missed and assignments given during a legitimate absence.
Class Lates
Students are expected to come to class on time.
Arriving late disturbs the class, is disrespectful to the teachers, interferes with the learning process and hinders
student's progress. Consequently, tardiness will not be tolerated.

Students who are late will:
(a) Lose class marks and not be allowed to participate in class
(b) Be disciplined by subject teacher
(c) Have their parents contacted
(d) Be referred to administration for disciplinary reasons if problem persists.
Legitimate in-between class late will only be accepted by a note from a teacher or an administrator.
