 Religious Education and faith formation are rooted in a biblical spirituality and Catholic tradition

 The spiritual dimension of the person is an essential factor in every person’s education

 The partnership of family, church and school is essential to

Catholic education

Our relationship with God deepens as we come to know Jesus, His

Son in our lives—by the Word of the Lord and by our tradition, thus being transformed as God’s children.

Liturgical Celebration is a way of responding to life, and when life is recognized as a gift

St. Leonard Catholic School Community

St. Leonard Elementary School serves a diverse community and has an enrollment of 391 students from JK to Gr. 8.

Let's Do Something Beautiful for God.

This is our motto and as the community of

St. Leonard School we will strive to enhance the spiritual life of the school as a self-renewing community.

Liturgy - Worship:

There are Eucharistic and non-Eucharistic celebrations for the whole school, divisions and individual classes. Classes attend weekday Mass at St. Leonard Church. Parents are invited to attend.

Faith Development:

Staff, students and parents are involved in learning more about our faith and living fully to respond to daily and future challenges.

Prayer

Prayer is an essential component in experiencing God’s presence and in developing a relationship with God and

Mary. Various forms of prayer are used in class, and during liturgies:

 Daily prayer in class and on morning announcements

 Special Seasonal / Theme prayers in class and on

P.A. System, before meetings

Formal prayers include: Rosary, Apostle’s’ Creed,

Opportunities for Adult faith development are supported and facilitated throughout the year.

Service to others: Community outreach:

We continue to demonstrate our awareness of the needs of others, as well as those of our environment, through involvement in volunteer and green initiatives, food drives, support of charitable organizations i.e. St.

Vincent de Paul, Share Life as well as other groups and individuals within our community.

Signs/Symbols of our Faith

Visual signs and symbols are displayed throughout the school as reminders of our

Catholic beliefs and traditions

- at the office, front foyer, halls and in the classrooms.

Throughout the School

Altar/Prayer Table, Bible, Candle, Crucifix,

Stations of the Cross, Liturgical Season

Symbols, Prayer Books of Peace, Pictures,

Advent Wreath, Nativity Scene, individual and collective student work on liturgical seasons and sacramental themes.

Virtue Formation

At St. Leonard School we shall work to create and sustain a safe, caring and inclusive school community that includes Catholic virtues education. A priority throughout the year is Catholic Virtue Formation. A virtue is a habit or established capacity to perform good actions according to the moral standards reflected in the gospel. A Catholic school is the ideal place to practice and prepare to live a virtuous life, following the example of Jesus. Faith, Empathy, Conscience, Hope, Self-Control, Respect,

Kindness, Love, Acceptance, and Fairness.

When we act out these virtues, we are making the presence of God visible in the world.
