VIRTUE FOR JANUARY
Give us gentle wisdom
That we might help a friend
Give us strength and courage
So a shoulder we might lend.
Please give the leaders of our
world
A courage born of peace
That they might lead us gently
And all the fighting cease.
Please give to all upon this earth
A heart that's filled with love
A gentle happy way to live
With Your blessings from above.
~ Charlotte Anselmo
The year ahead is empty
Help us fill it with good things
Each new day filled with joy
And the happiness it brings.
SELF CONTROL
God has given us the ability to
choose.
When we use self-control, we
can be sure that our school will
be a safe, caring and inclusive
place to live and to learn.
PA DAY
Please be reminded that Monday, January 18th is a PA Day for students. The
Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board has scheduled a PA Day for Term

CHARITY AT CHRISTMAS
Lester B. Pearson Catholic Elementary School was pleased to sponsor needy families for
Christmas through St. Anthony of Padua Parish. With contributions from the Halloween and
Christmas Sprinkle Cookie sales, the school was able to donate $250.00 in gift certificates
to families in need in our parish community. Our thanks to the school community for
supporting our cookie sales. Thank you also to Miss Mantenuto, Mrs. Nieznalski, Mrs.
Sambartolo and the Youth Faith Ambassadors for assisting with this activity.
TOYS FOR TOTS and
Children’s Aid
Initiative
A HUGE SUCCESS
The Lester B. Pearson
Catholic Elementary School Toys for Tots
was a great success. Thanks to the
generosity of our school community, we
were able to collect 4 large bags of new
toys that will be distributed to those in
need in our region. We also collected 134
pairs of mittens and gloves that were
brought to the Knights Table for
distribution. With proceeds from the
Jingle night we were able to purchase $140
of formula and diapers for the local
Children's Aid Society. Thank you to all
who participated! The Spirit of Christmas is
very much present at Lester B. Pearson
Catholic School. Thank you to Miss

Let’s start the New Year off by giving back. How can we help and what can we do? A pop
tab for wheel chairs is back. Last year was a great success and we appreciate all your help.
LBPCES we continue to collect pop tabs for wheel chairs from January to June and we
know that we can surpass last year’s donations. Here's how it works:
1. Drink a can of pop (or juice or iced tea or maybe a specialty drink) **Please No Colour
tab such as red or green, only silver ones**
2. Remove the tab by bending it back and forth or twisting it a little.
3. Pop the tab into a container or bag.
4. Once the bag gets full bring it to class and place in your class container
or the bottle out front of the main office.
Head Injuries
As per Board protocol, each
time a student sustains a
head injury the incident will
be logged and followed up
with a phone call home. As well, students
will receive “Concussions are
Serious” pamphlet. It is recommended to
review the pamphlet and look for signs and
symptoms of a concussion.
Parents of students in Grades 1 and 2 will
soon be receiving an informational letter
about the Raz-Kids reading program with their child’s login and password. We are very excited about this personalized at-home computerized reading
program and we are confident your child
will ‘take off’! Happy Reading!
Students Arriving Late to School
We have had an increase in the number of students who arrive
late to school in the mornings and after lunch. Especially as
more wintry weather approaches, it is very important that
students arrive to school on time and ready to work, as late
arrivals disrupt instructional activities and classroom routines.
School starts at 9:00am and at 1:00pm. Students should be at school with enough time to line
up with their classes. Please note that if they do not arrive on time to make it to their line as
the bell rings, they need to enter through the front doors to pick up an admit slip before going
to class.

Do you have a concern?
We recognize that a close working relationship between school and parents/
guardians is essential to fostering and maintaining a strong learning
environment. We understand that there may be times when students or
parents may feel aggrieved about something that is happening at the school.
Sometimes students are involved in conflicts with other students, other
times students may feel a situation was not resolved. We try our best to
deal with all situations that are brought to our attention, however, we want
to make sure our students feel heard. Please keep us informed. Many times
a quick “heads up” will make us aware of issues.
Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the staff member directly involved in any issue. That is
always the best place to start. All our staff have voice mailboxes which are checked frequently. They may
not return your call the same day but will attempt to do so in a timely manner. Of course, because of the
seriousness of some situations you may contact the school office and speak directly with the principal.
Always leave your name and contact information. We cannot address any anonymous concerns.
Parents are not advised to approach children or members of other families regarding a school related
situation. This is often a sensitive area and in order to protect all the parties involved it is advisable to
work through the relevant teacher and/or principal.
We often commend You, the families of our school community, who have always been openly receptive and
cooperative with maintaining our goal to provide our students, and your children, with a balanced support and
positive influence. We are confident that together, we need to continue to model appropriate Catholic
behaviour in our encounters and in dealing with unpleasant situations, as we know that teaching by example,
is the most effective kind.
Beginning the week of
January 11th 2016,
students from grades 3-8 will have an opportunity to
complete outstanding assignments & research at our
LBPCES Computer Club. The club will run on
Tuesday and Thursdays from
12:01 to 12:41.
Students are to come to the computer lab prepared with all materials needed, including all
resources and outside attire should they finish early. We will have a computer club bin
for students to place their materials in when they finish early, so that they can avoid going
back to class.
Thank you to Ms. DeBuono and & Mrs. Fall

Christmas
Mingle Jingle
Thank you to everyone who visited the Green
Corner at the
Christmas Mingle
Jingle! We
Did you see our
snowman??? The
students worked hard to collect water bottles over the
month of November. We collected 405 water bottles,
and put them together to create a snowman our of
paper mache. The paper mache was made out of old
newspapers and flyers, and to the outside white, we
used GOOS (Good on One Side) paper! We hope that
by seeing our "Greenie" snowman, people will realize
how much waste is created by using disposable water
bottles, and use re-usable ones more often!
We JINGLED hard! Our Christmas
Jingle was a huge success. It was
amazing to have so many of our
LBPCES Families together
enjoying the Season as one
community! Your generosity filled
our 12 ft. tree with almost 100
mittens!!! And your popcorn,
cookies and water purchases
enable us to donate $140 towards
the Children’s Aid Society Baby
Drive. Our Youth Faith
Ambassador’s shopped for the
babies and purchased much need
items with this money like diapers
and formula!
Thank you!
We are also so proud to announce that we had 49
people bring their own mugs to the Mingle Jingle for
hot chocolate. That's 49 styrofoam cups that did not
have to be used and end up in the landfill!! As a
reward, those people were able to enjoy some
marshmallows with their
hot chocolate!
Thank you for your
continued support, and
please remember to keep
our earth clean and
green! Please see the ad
for our upcoming "Wastefree lunch challenge from
January 19-22!
Environmentally yours,
Mrs. Archdekin, Ms.
DeBuono, Mrs. Fall,
