INFORMATION/DISCUSSION/PRESENTATIONS Update on grant opportunities – Career Pathway Trust Grant Jackie Cruz reported on a grant proposal that is due March 28 th for the California Department of Education, California Career Pathways Trust. It is a regional proposal including Monterey and San Benito County educational partners, and Gavilan, Monterey Peninsula and Hartell Colleges. The pathways being considered include Ag Tech (Diesel, Auto, Food Safety, Pest Control Application, and Horticultural Technician); Health (CNA, LVN, RN, Respiratory Care Practitioner, EMT and Physician Assistant); Engineering (Aviation Technology at Gavilan); Construction and Sustainable Design; Public Service Pathway (Education, Early Childhood Education, Administration of Justice); and Hospitality/Tourism (Monterey Peninsula College). All pathways must demonstrate incorporation of STEM. We are also considering incorporation of sustainability and entrepreneurship in all pathways. A meeting with partners is planned for Monday, February 24 from 10am-3pm in B208 and Advancement Council members are invited. We are applying to the $15M category. The grant term is four academic years and funding covers three years. Program Review Update Jackie Cruz reported that the suggestions from the last Advancement Council meeting have been incorporated into the program review documents. Regarding the Office of Institutional Advancement request for an alumni engagement position, Jackie reviewed the justification. With 40,000 alumni in our database and 6,000 of those identified as likely make a strong connection to the college, this position is critical. Additionally, this position is expected to raise enough revenue to seed fund a planned giving officer position, which is also critically needed. Tony Anderson asked for information to compare our operations and staffing to other similar offices at other colleges and universities to help the council understand the need. Jackie offered to bring back to the council some comparison information. Additionally, the funding request includes making the Philanthropy Officer a college position with the college paying the benefits. Al Munoz reminded the group that one of the biggest challenges with additional position funding is consideration of the 50% rule. If the college can increase FTE in future years thereby increasing the instructional side of the equation, that will increase the opportunity on the non-instructional side. Al should be able to report soon on future FTE outlook. Al reminded council members that this year managers have been asked to curtail non-instructional spending to make sure we finish 2013-14 on the right side of the 50% rule. President’s Task Force Funding Plan alignment with Strategic Plan 2 Hartnell College Mission Statement Hartnell College provides the leadership and resources to ensure that all students shall have equal access to a quality education and the opportunity to pursue and achieve their goals. We are responsive to the learning needs of our community and dedicated to a diverse educational and cultural campus environment that prepares our students for productive participation in a changing world. The council members briefly reviewed three documents that are proposed to help correlate the Office of Advancement Funding Plan 2012-17 with the college’s updated strategic priorities/and performance indicators. The documents are a pdf of the funding plan projects, the latest draft of the strategic plan, and a matrix for correlating them. The plan is to spend time at the next meeting completing the matrix, which will require council members to be familiar with the information. Council members agreed that working on the matrix as a group, as opposed to via an online survey, was best because it would allow for discussion. OTHER ITEMS/BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENTS There was discussion about filling the vacancies on the council. There was discussion about staff, faculty, adjunct and student leadership awards. Some examples were presented.
