Job Summary/Overview:

The Dispatcher position is responsible for creating and managing all freight movements, truck dispatch, shipment tracking and customer service of 100+ company drivers and owner/operators.

The right candidate will be able to use independent discretion and judgment to plan and implement freight movements that directly impact the company financially by taking into account client needs, driver needs, specific freight concerns, and compliance issues. This position should be highly motivated, possess exceptional sales and telephone skills and have outstanding attention to detail.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

Use independent discretion and judgment to create and dispatch movements.

Manage and assign drivers/trucks to movements and manage the pickup, stop-off and delivery times

Supervise drivers in carrying out their assignments

Supervise dispatch support employees in their daily duties

Manage order entry files, recurring load files and online order maintenance

Communicate with drivers, customers, vendors, etc. in a professional manner

Ability to use satellite tracking to communicate with truck driver units

Must be able to make independent decisions under pressure that directly impact the company financially

Must have the ability and willingness to use independent discretion to terminate the employment of a driver as necessary to protect the interests of the company and public safety

Participate in the orientation program for new drivers. Assist and coordinate orientation details with departments and the driver as needed

Participate in driver training and ongoing driver evaluation, including driver performance reviews and driver discipline as necessary

Provide senior management with comprehensive reports, updates, information, suggestions and feedback on policy trends and concerns related to the successful flow of business operations, impediments to the flow of business, and safety and compliance as needed

Address current driver questions and route concerns to the appropriate department as needed

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Associates degree, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Knowledge of the transportation industry (refrigeration) preferred. Previous call center experience is a plus.

High level of honesty, integrity, energy, and personal accountability

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and excel in a results only work environment

Knowledge of trucking operations, DOT/FMSCA rules and regulations including hours of service

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

Ability to manage sensitive and/or confidential documents and information

Ability to read, write, talk and hear; add, subtract, multiply and divide

Strong computer skills with knowledge of Excel, Word and web based applications along with the ability to learn industry specific software is required

Prompt and reliable daily attendance at assigned work location

As a 24/7 operation, this position requires 40 plus hours a week, including some weekends as this is a night shift of 4 nights on and 4 nights off in rotation.

Physical Requirements:

Require considerable concentration and focus. It is subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and workload.

Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on job taking distance and speed into account.

Normal physical strength to handle routine lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals up to 35 pounds.

Position requires sitting for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

The duties of this position are typically performed in an office setting with normal ranges of temperatures and a moderate to high level of office background noise. The majority of duties are performed while sitting at a desk. Communication typically occurs through face-to-face interaction, as well as via e-mail, telephone and written correspondence. This job also requires the ability to use other office equipment such as a copier, fax machine, etc. Occasionally travel to meetings throughout the office and at other company office sites and client locations (10%-

20% travel). Constantly work in a team environment, effectively and efficiently achieving goals, improving processes and resolving problems.
