As our school community celebrate it’s 18th year of operations, our enrollment
has increased to nearly 2200 students, making us the largest Catholic Secondary
School in Mississauga. We started off the new school year during the last week
of August by having an orientation for our grade 9 students. The day of
orientation was based on a leadership model facilitated by Keith Hawkins, a
motivational speaker from Sacramento, California.
This year we have a new Vice-Principal, Ms. O’Leary and six new teachers.

Our school board has a new director of education, Mr. John Kostoff, replacing
Mr. Michael Bator who is retiring after 34 years of service with our board. Our
school community thanks Mr. Bator for his outstanding leadership and
contributions to our board in the many roles he assumed in his career as an
educator in Dufferin-Peel.
This year the school landscape has changed with the addition of 5 more
portables and we are in the process of installing a new electronic signboard in
the front of our school. In the area of curriculum, we have introduced two new
high skills majors in Health Care and Hospitality. Both these programs are new
ministry of education initiatives that will be pilot programs at St. Francis Xavier.
As for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, we had over 200 applications for 95 spots in the grade 9 pre-IB programs. Many of the students that
apply to the program are the best and brightest students in Mississauga.

By. Mr. Minardi
Welcome back everyone.
What a difference a year makes! I am so
excited about our time together this year,
so much that I can barely wait to launch
our chaplaincy formation program with
you. This year, we will continue to focus
on prayer and community. We will do so
through our monthly prayer groups for
staff and students, as well as celebrating
our faith through our liturgical
expression. Also, we will continue to
help evangelize the school community
with our many events such as; school
walk-a-thon for ShareLife, thanksgiving
food drive, Remembrance Day services,
overnight formation retreat, 24 Hour
Fast, etc. My hope and prayer is that
together, as a community of faith, we
will continue to make present to our
school community and to the world, the
love and compassion of God. Also,
through the intercession of St. Francis
Xavier, that we may be that evangelizing
voice to all people across all lands. God
bless you!

Drop off your
Pop tabs and Old Batteries
By Ms. Sorbara
If you didn't already know, let me inform you
about the recycling program in Xavier. Sure we
collect re-useable paper on tuesdays and dispose of can and bottles in the blue bins but did you know we also
collect pop tabs?! In the past, all the pop tabs we've collected have been sent to Erin Oak Hospital to be used for
making wheelchairs for children who are physically challenged. This year EI will also be collecting
used batteries in an attempt to dispose of them
properly. The collection of batteries landfills
increases the pH of the soil and makes it difficult
for plants to grow. So if you would like to be
proud of yourself and do something for the
planet, and for the next generation of children
please drop off the tabs from your pop cans and
used batteries in the marked containers located
in various spots in the cafe.

From October 7 to October 22 six St. Francis Xavier students will
join students from Notre Dame, St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Aloysius Gonzaga in exploring the cities of Shangai, Bejing and Xian.
While visiting the Foreign Language Secondary School that is affiliated with the Shanghai International Studies University the students
will be immersed in the rich Chinese culture and will have the opportunity to experience and appreciate new customs. The Xavier
students will be accompanied by teachers from the four schools. Mr.
Mant and Mr. Abbruscato will be the chaperones from St. FX.
