PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Our primary concern is student safety . . . your co-operation will
truly make a difference. Many of our students are designated
as walkers; therefore our main goal is to encourage our students
to WALK to school and to cut down on the number of cars in our
parking lot … cars pose the greatest safety risk to our students.
Please support the efforts of the SJMV staff to ensure the safety of
all of our children by following guidelines:

If you need to drive to school park in the neighbourhood and use nearby
crosswalks to walk the rest of the way. This will ease traffic on school property and help to ensure greater student safety during morning drop off.

Please reinforce with your child to obey the crossing guards rules, and to walk
across the intersection and not run. Please use the designated sidewalks entering into the playground.

Teach your children to not run through parked and moving cars to come to you.

If you drive your children to school, then please use the designated Kiss and
Ride area on the south side parking lot. Pull up to the curb, allow your children to exit your vehicle (sidewalk side). If you want to walk your children to
the yard please park in the parking lot. Please DO N OT PAR K in the Kiss &
Ride lane.

Criminal Reference Checks
SOCCER
Anyone working in our school as a new employee
or volunteer must have a Criminal Reference Check
completed by the Peel Police. CRC are free of
charge for volunteers. Forms will be available from
the office.
Congratulations to our Intermediate Girls and
Boys soccer teams who competed in the Brampton West Family of Schools Tournament last
week. Both teams played extremely well and
never gave up. Their determination is to be commended.
Front Door Entry
The installation of this system allows us to enhance
the safety and security of students and staff by
locking the front doors. The front door will remain
locked and all visitors are asked to use the buzzer
to enter the school. Please be patient if we are unable to answer the door immediately. Our office
staff could be dealing with another situation and
can not respond for a brief period of time. Thank
you for your cooperation.
Reminder: All students who arrive after 9:00 a.m.
or 1:00p.m. must obtain a Late Slip.
COMMUNICATION
Open communication between home and school is
very important. Although we will be reporting to
you formally during the year, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time if you have questions
or concerns. A phone call at the onset of a concern
usually resolves itself before it becomes a problem.
On our part, if we have any concerns about your
child, we will also contact you at the earliest opportunity. Please use your child’s agenda to maintain communication with the teacher. If you wish
to meet with a teacher please phone the school for
an appointment. Thank you!
Vianney Email Up and Running!
Thank you to the parents who have
agreed to receive emails from the
school. We are continue to send
out current information about
school events.
If you would like to receive these emails and you
have not agreed to the consent required (Anti
Spam Legislation form), please contact the office
for more information.

CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING TEAM
Mr. Hilario
Students in grades 4 – 8 have been training at
school 4 days a week from Monday to Thursday
lunch time and afternoons. We have a very committed and enthusiastic group of approximately
90 students and are just finalizing the team that
will represent St. Jean-Marie Vianney at the crosscountry meet scheduled for Wednesday, October 14th. at Chinguacousy Park, Brampton. Thank
you to all the coaches for their commitment and
time.
We Day TORONTO 2015
On October 1st, a number of our grade 8 and 7
students were given an opportunity of a lifetime to
go to We Day which was held at the ACC. We Day
is where students are encouraged to make a difference. We Day was filled with joy from live performances and speakers but it was also filled with
sorrow that many people are facing throughout the
world and their stories. I’m happy to report many
intermediate students and Vianney’s Vision will be
presenting many topics and charitable opportunities talked about at We Day. Our first challenge is
“Vianney Scares Hunger”. We will be collecting
canned food items for St. Louise Outreach
throughout the month of October.

Annual Terry Fox Walk
Mrs. Coombes
Many thanks to everyone for making our Terry fox
Walk another great success: the staff of St. Jean
Marie Vianney, the parents and of course all the
children who participated. This year, our school
collected $850.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Our students continue to be a part of keeping Terry's dream alive to find a cure for cancer.
Vianney students and
staff are encouraged to
walk, bike or scooter to
school on iwalk to School Day. This is an international event and the school tally will be submitted
to this organization. Teaching children the importance of protecting our environment and being
more active are just two of the many positive benefits of this campaign.

text messages, etc.) will continue to be directed
through the main office. Failure to comply with these
guidelines may result in a loss of PED privileges and/or
any other consequences deemed necessary by school
administration.
The school principal may authorize limited acceptable uses of personal electronic devices during schoolsanctioned activities for a specific designated purpose outside of instructional spaces and/or in common areas.
Students are responsible for the safety and security of PEDs at all times and the Board assumes no
responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen devices.
