J.Cherickal Principal’s Message We are finally in the last week of school! This has been quite a school year at St. Ursula Catholic School. It has been very busy with implementing curriculum, preparing for Ministry of Education testing, going on excursions, practicing for sporting /special events, preparing for graduation, and enjoying each other’s company. We are truly blessed to be part of such a dynamic community. I feel very blessed to be part of the St. Ursula family. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year at the school with the staff, students, parish and parents of the St. Ursula School community. The staff is extremely dedicated to our students and our parents are wonderful people who want the best for their children. Thank you for making St. Ursula a wonderful place to be! I would also like to give a special thank you to our Catholic School Council and the many parent volunteers who put so much time and energy toward our school. Volunteers play a very important role and are always welcome in our schools. Congratulations to our grade eight students on the culmination of your elementary education. I wish you well as you continue your education in secondary school. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all families a safe and peaceful summer. K.DaCosta FAITH DEVELOPMENT APPLAUSE! PLEASE NOTE: Students will only be informed of their tentative class placement on the first day of school in September. Virtue of the Month - Fairness Missing Texts and Library Materials We are made by God to live together, to share and to help each other. Christianity is about living together in Community. Jesus spent a major part of his time on earth showing us about the preferential option for the poor and weak. He spent time showing us how to follow God’s rules. Everyone deserves a fair chance to succeed. A fair person: listens to all sides before forming opinions, cheers on the success of one another, refuses to twist rules to avoid consequences, works for peaceful solutions to a problem, and can balance their own rights and responsibilities with those of others. Each year students are assigned textbooks for use in their studies. Our expectation is that students will be responsible for these books throughout the year, returning them in good condition. Each text can cost up to $100, so it is imperative that each book is returned. An expectation is that students will be responsible for the replacement of lost or damaged books. Please help your child search through closets for any missing textbooks and library materials. We pray for the gift of “Fairness”, to treat others as we would like to be treated. Thank you! Year End Liturgy Grades one to eight students celebrated our closing liturgy on June 15th in the Gym. Father Francisco as always was warm and welcoming. It was a lovely year end mass where students and staff reflected on the wonderful accomplishments that we all achieved throughout our school year. We continue to monitor our school energy use by encouraging lights to be dimmed in favor of natural light, curtains to be closed at the end of the day to keep the warm/cool air in, computer monitors turned off when not in use and using GOOSE paper. Our weekly campaigns were Trash less Tuesdays and Lights out Fridays. Winners were announced each month and pictures were posted on the ECO News bulletin board. Our Big Campaign was our reusable material fashion show and boomerang lunches. These two campaigns highlighted the importance of bringing in reusable containers and reducing the amount of trash we produce. Our Outdoor class and green campaign got classes involved in keeping the gardens clean and soiled and then classes were instructed in the peace garden. Our two waste audits showed us how much garbage we were using. We won GOLD status again! This is an incredible accomplishment, two years in a row. Thanks so much to Mr. Iantorno for leading this initiative. Report Cards Report cards will be sent home on June 25th. Reports for students not present at school will be mailed. Parents/students are asked to comment on the last page of their report card, and return by June 27th. Library News N.
