Principal’s message
Mary, Mother of Mothers
Mary, Mother of Mothers, we honor
you this month of May.
Help us to be servants as you were,
And carry the life of Jesus within us
always.
Help us to model our lives after
yours;
To become loving,
To love the unlovable,
To be closer to you,
To have greater trust,
To love our wayward families,
To become caring and serving to all
those we affect in our daily lives.

Amen
Thank you to the Junior classes, the choir
and Father Vito, for celebrating our Easter Mass on April 9, 2015. As a faith community our hearts have been filled with
joy during this Easter season.
Catholic Education Week takes place
from May 4-8th, 2015. This year’s Catholic Education week is Exploring Paths of
Joy. Throughout Catholic Education
Week, we ask you to reflect on the significance of Catholic education’s presence
and contribution in our Church and in our
society. As part of this week’s highlights
we will have a Crowning of Mary mass on
Wednesday, May 6th at 9:30am. Parents
are welcome to join us at the Church.
This is an exciting month as students ingrade 8 receive their Confirmation. May
God continue to bless them and guide
them on their faith journey. Thank you to
Mr. Broccoli and Father Vito for all of their
hard work in preparing the students. I
also wish to congratulate the grade 2 students who received their First Communion recently. Thank you to Mrs. Scarfo
and Mrs. Travierso for their hard work in
preparing the students for the sacrament.
As we honour Mary and all mothers during the month of May we are reminded of
the many blessings mothers bestow upon
their children each and every day. Let us
keep Mary and all mothers in our
thoughts and prayers.

Virtue of the Month– Acceptance
The virtue of acceptance describes our ability to look at the attitudes and action of
those around us and then just stop and consider without judging them. The virtue
of acceptance means that we look beyond what we see a person’s skin colour,
ethnic background, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation and see a person as
created and loved by God.
School Bus Safety
As you know ensuring child safety is a very
important goal while students are on the bus.
Please remind your children of the following
rules on the bus:
 Listen to the driver when getting on and
off the bus, especially when a road must
be crossed
 Go directly to their seat and stay seated until they are let off the bus
 Follow all instructions from the bus driver, especially about where they
put their belongings
 No eating or drinking on the bus, school bags should remained closed
 No swearing or yelling or other types of inappropriate behaviour
 No opening or closing of windows unless the driver permits
 Keep all belongings inside the bus
 No damage to the bus seats(students will be held responsible)
 Respect private property while waiting for the school bus
 Allow the bus driver to focus on driving by not talking to the bus driver
while the bus is in operation unless it is necessary
Next School Council
Meeting:
June 2, 2015
At
7:00pm
In the Library
All parents are welcome
It is imperative that students understand that the bus driver’s main focus
must be to drive and so students must be on their best behaviour for the
duration of their trip.
Catholic Education Week takes place from May 4-8th, 2015. Catholic
schools are Catholic communities. Catholic schools are faith communities.
We-parents, students, teachers, administrative and support staff—walk and
grow together in the faith which we received at our Baptism. And it is the
‘together’ that we grow. Our growth is primarily a relationship with God,
who at our Baptism called us by name. But the response of each of us to
that growth is both personal and communal. We grow in our faith in the
nurturing atmosphere of our Catholic community and that of our local parish, our home, or our Catholic school community.
This year’s Catholic Education week is Exploring Paths of Joy: The
sub-themes for Catholic Education Week 2015 are as follows:
Monday: Walking Together and Sharing our Story
Tuesday: Opening the Scriptures
Wednesday: Welcoming Others to the Table
Thursday: Recognizing Jesus in the Breaking of
the Bread
Friday: Proclaiming the Good News

EQAO Update
The grade 3 and 6 assessments measure how well
students have met the expectations in the Ontario
Curriculum Grades 1-8. The assessments test what
students know and how well they apply their
knowledge and skills in reading, writing and mathematics in everyday situations by requiring students
to read and respond to passages, to write and to
solve mathematical problems. The results are reported in terms of achievement from levels 1-4 with
level 3, which represent a high level of achievement
as the standard.
The window for EQAO assessments of all grade 3
and 6 students of 2014/2015 has been established
for May 26 to June 5, 2015. Please keep this important time frame in mind when you are planning
family trips or appointments. It is important that all
Grade 3 and 6 students be in attendance for the
assessments.
For further details on our school results improvement plans or students achievement on the provincial assessments visit the Board website at: http://

Dear students, parents, staff and administrators of our parish
schools, greetings and blessings in the Risen Lord.
In these past few weeks and in weeks to come, our parish community
has and continues to rejoice in the celebrations of First Communion and Confirmation. As we
welcome children and young friends to the Table of the Lord and to Full Initiation into the community, we also become aware of our need as a Christian community to CONTINUE OUR JOURNEY into deeper understanding and stronger celebration of our faith.
How can this be achieved? Faith is not a matter of programs. Yes, we do need structure in preparing for these events, but the true Teacher of our faith is the Liturgy, that is, our coming together to celebrate the Sacraments, to reflect on God’s Word and to grow as a family of faith. It
is in the way we pray that we understand who we are and what our faith is all about.
I strongly encourage families of the young people celebrating the Sacraments, and all families of
our community, to continue making the Sunday Mass the focal point of our week, and of course,
to make Christ the centre of our life.
Students and parents presently in Grades 7 and 8: Please note!
Beginning in the academic year 2015-2016, the Archdiocese of Toronto will celebrate Confirmation in Grade 7. Next school year, therefore, students in both grades 7 and 8 will be offered the
opportunity to register and prepare for Confirmation. We ask all who will be registering for Confirmation in our parish, in the month of September, to please begin preparing by providing a copy
of the child’s baptismal certificate which will be required for registration. If you are not in possession of one, please contact the church of your child’s baptism to have it prepared.
Thanking you for all that you do to cherish the faith that has been handed down to us and of
which we are faithful stewards, I pray that the Lord may continue to bless your home, the domestic church, with joy, love, peace and unity.
A blessed month of May, to all of you, under the patronage of Our Blessed Mother Mary, and a
joyful week of Catholic Education.
Sincerely,
Fr. Vito Marziliano,
your pastor.
