POLONIUS: WHAT DO YOU READ, MY LORD?
HAMLET: WORDS, WORDS, WORDS.
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE. HAMLET, ACT II SCENE II
November 2015 Vol. 2 Iss. 3
This month, as we remember those who have stood in defense of our nation, and
others in our lives we have lost, we also must remember that there can be balance in
our life. Experiencing the loss of a loved one can devastating, but it can also be a
chance to remember the joy they brought us. As a community and a country, loss
can bring us closer together in supportive and encouraging ways. This month, we
challenge our community to remember the loss and sacrifices in our lives while also
knowing that hope and community are wonderful ways to help keep us balanced.

WHAT’S ON THIS MONTH
HERE’S A NOVEL IDEA
NOVEMBER 11
Remembrance Day
With the cold air on its way, it might just be the time to settle in with a new novel! At
the end of last year, the library purchased a plethora of new novels (and graphic
novels) for every level of reader. From stories of family loss or rekindling love, to
action-packed adventures, we are sure to have something for everyone. We have scifi novels about gaming, realistic novels about car racing, popular fantasy series,
retellings of the greatest love stories ever told, and much, much more.
Ms. Corbett and Ms. Mallen have a tonne of secret knowledge about what’s on our
shelves that we are more than willing to divulge to anyone interested. By asking a
few simple questions, we can give you a stack of books you’re sure to enjoy. We love
talking about stories and would love to share our passion for books with you.

FEATURED REVIEW
Anne Frank: Dairy of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
There are many wonderful editions to this timeless classic, and reading any
one of them will leave you wondering how such immense hope can survive
through such terror. This true account of one Jewish family’s expeience of
WWII is told through the eyes of their young resilient daughter, Anne. The
diary chronicles the two years that the Frank family was in hiding during
the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, and their constant struggule for
survival. Told with innocence, understanding, humour, poise, and hope,
this is a wonderful book to read this month.
ON DISPLAY THIS MONT H
Through Terror with Hope
This month, the upper level display will highlight
Remembrance Day fiction and non-fiction titles filled with
resilience and hope. The wonderful non-fiction book Front
Page: World War II is a great resource for real newspaper
coverage printed during the war. Memoirs from Holocaust
survivors such as Getting Out Alive and We Sang in Hushed
Voices provide harrowing and hopeful perspectives. Fictitious diaries, including titles from the
Dear Diary and I am Canadian series, help round out our upper display. We have a wide range
of titles about this important occasion. On the lower display, we have assembled a collection
of our Reel Book features. Along with titles like The Da Vinci Code and Twilight, our lower
level display highlights some of our fiction titles that have corresponding films. We encourage
you to come and borrow anything from our displays.
REEL BOOKS
The highly anticipated adaptation of Emma
Donoghue’s harrowing novel Room, published
in 2010, was released in theatres last month.
Told through the eyes of five-year-old Jack,
this impactful story follows his day-to-day life
in Room where he lives with his Ma. Ma tries
to keep them both healthy, while feeding
Jack’s imagination and trying to keep herself
sane. Old Nick, who only comes at night, isn’t
the only threat in Room, but he’s the biggest.
There are tremendous challenges in Room,
but other challenges await them once Jack
and Ma make a dangerous escape. This story
will stay with you long after it’s over.
