Principal’s Message,
Advent is a time when we prepare spiritually in order
to fully understand and share in the joy of Christ’s
arrival. Jesus came into the world in a very simple and
humble manner. This should make us ponder on how
it is in the small and simple things of our lives that we
still find God.
At St. Mark School we emphasize the implications of
the birth of our Saviour through our Christian actions.
We ensure that Advent is a time where we embrace
reflection, prayer, charity and social justice. It is a time
to prepare the way, to make God real each and every
day through prayer, charity and good deeds.
Together, with the beautiful gift of your children in our
school community, we will strive to walk in the light
of Christ during this season and always.
On behalf of the staff of St. Mark School, I extend our
best wishes during this most blessed time, to you and
your family. We hope that 2016 will be a year where
we see peace growing throughout our local and global
world, and that love, hope and joy shines in everyone’s
heart. Enjoy this special time with family and friends.
JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON. . . .
mark your calendars and extend the invitation to
family and friends . . . December 16th at St. Mark
School . . . we are anticipating another magical
evening. Thank you to all for your donations, time and
ongoing support.
Pax et bonum,
M. Masucci
Advent Mass
Please join us at our Advent Mass on Thursday,
December 10th at 10:15 am in our school gym,
led by our Junior classes. Our school choir will
be singing under the direction of Mrs. Legere.
Virtue of the Month
This
month
we
celebrate the Virtue of
Hope. We believe that
God comes to us as a
real human who can
show us the way of
life. We understand
that both the world
and its people are from
God and so are
essentially good.
God helps us to keep
on working for a more
peaceful world even
when
we
feel
discouraged. People of
Hope...keep
up
a
positive attitude, can
bounce back from
tough situations, set and stick to their goals.
Furthermore, God has given us this Advent
season year after year in order to focus our
minds and our hearts on the good all around us.

Dry Feet, Dry Clothing and
Staying in for Recess
Colder weather is upon us!
Please ensure that your child comes to
school prepared to participate in all
activities, including outdoor recess. All
children should have hats, scarves,
gloves, warm coats and boots. As the
rainy season gives way to slush and
snow, all students are reminded to bring
an extra pair of shoes to wear indoors
during the winter months.
Fire
regulations dictate that all students must
have footwear on at all times.
In anticipation of a cold and snowy
winter, we would also like to advise
parents of children in the primary grades
to send an extra set of clothes (track
pants, sweatshirts, socks and underwear)
to school. These clothes will be kept at
the school to be used when the child is
wet from playing in the snow.
In colder weather we often receive
requests to allow children to remain
indoors when they have a cold, flu, etc.
Please note that we cannot comply, as we
do not have the staff to supervise these
students. If you feel your child is not
well enough to go outside, it would be
best for you to keep your child at home.
REMEMBER: Health Officials indicate
that fresh air is beneficial as long as
students are dressed appropriately.
On extremely cold days, when the windchill factor exceeds minus 20C, we limit
the amount of time that students spend
outdoors.
We obtain our weather
information from the Environment
Canada Weather Information Line and
following School Board guidelines. With
the exception of these occasions, all
children will go out for recess and the
lunch breaks.
Snowballs
Just a reminder...Please emphasize to
your children that School/Board policy
DOES NOT ALLOW THROWING
SNOWBALLS, KICKING SNOW, OR
“SNOWING” OTHERS ON SCHOOL
PROPERTY.
Please remind your
children of the seriousness of these
activities and the possible danger, for
those hit.
Bus Cancellations/School Closing
During the winter months inclement
weather may cause disruption of bus
transportation and regular school
operations. A decision to cancel school
transportation and/or to close schools is
usually made by 6:00 am and will be
announced on the local and TV and radio
stations.
Eco School
An ongoing initiative at St. Mark School
is to encourage a more eco-friendly
environment. Over the next several
months, there will be various activities
that focus on this message. We will
promote litterless lunches, use of reuseable water bottles, anti-idling, and
walking to school.
Parents are
encouraged to support this venture by
participating in the program to promote
a more eco-friendly school.
Lost and Found
Please encourage your
children to peruse the numerous articles
of clothing and other items that have
accumulated in our hallway. We will be
making a donation of unclaimed clothing
on the last day of school.
School Council
Thank you to all parents
who are supporting St.
Mark School Council. Our school council
meetings are open to all parents and
caregivers. It is a great opportunity to
get involved and/or learn about your
child’s school and community.
An
invitation is extended to everyone to
attend our next council meeting on:
Monday, January 11, 2016 at 6:00 pm.
We have some exciting events planned
for the coming year and we are in need
of parent volunteers. If you can share
your talents and time, please contact the
school.
