Opening Prayer Mrs. Darmanin-Sturgeon led the meeting with the Lord’s Prayer. Introduction Mrs. Darmanin-Sturgeon welcomed everyone to first meeting of the 2014/15 calendar year. She requested to have everyone present introduce themselves. Approval of Agenda and Minutes Mrs. Darmanin-Sturgeon asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the May, 2014 meeting and the Agenda for tonight’s meeting. Both were approved. Catholic School Council Elections The following positions were acclaimed: Chair Dominique Darmanin-Sturgeon Treasurer Taria Rossi Fundraiser Leanne Milando Secretary Michelle Grant Community Rep Jennifer Szarota Parish Rep Christine Vigneault OAPCE Rep Josie Borg Teaching Reps Suzanne Quinn and Dianna Poole Non-Teaching Rep Silvana Di Bello Chair’s Report Mrs. Darmanin-Sturgeon welcomed those in attendance and in particular, Mrs. Vitale, our new school Vice Principal. Discussed the importance of familiarizing St. Angela Merici community regarding Children’s Mental Health and resources available to families. Suggested next Parent Engagement should possibly include community agencies who can inform families as to the programs and services that may be available to their families. Shared information on Cashless Schools and enquired as to how we might be able to advocate for this service in our school. It was determined that it is the Board’s decision and that the Chair could bring this item forth at a future CCCSC meeting. Discussed the need to increase volunteer pool in order to minimize pressure on one/two council members counting money or delivering food etc. Confirmed that Lunch Lady will continue to accept orders on-line or over the phone only. Mrs. Sturgeon will inform Raji from Lunch Lady as to the decision and work with her to determine start date. Principal’s Report Grade 4 French Immersion students were the first class to graduate and move on to St. Ursula. Students in Grades 4 French Immersion, Grade 2 and Grade 8, all received gifts on behalf of School Council, in recognition for receiving their sacraments and the Grade 4’s leaving our school Mrs. Sturgeon was present along with council members at grade 8 graduation and the end of year mass. A good opportunity for parents to see School Council’s presence. 583 students registered at St. Angela Merici Full day Kindergarten teachers are Mrs. Quinn, Mr. Quinlan and Ms. Easson. Two DECEs are present in our full classrooms. Due to re-organization, Madame Rousseau was reassigned to Grade 2 French Immersion October 17, 2014 First Mass 1:00 pm Father Jan to confirm sacrament dates for the year Terry Fox Walk led by Ms. Doria and Mr. Giovinazzo Boosting school spirit by volunteering to get whip cream in the face- many staff volunteered last year Small re-org that affected 28-29 students Mr. Birnie asked if the school relies on splits as they seem to have a lot at this school Mrs. Wilson explained that we have capped numbers in primary, and at times, this requires splits to occur October 2nd, thirteen Student Faith Leaders are participating in We Day. Mrs. Riverso-Correia and Ms. Avellino will be taking the students. Mrs. Marasco asked how students can become Faith Ambassadors. Mrs. Wilson did not know the number. She suggested contacting Ms. Avellino Mrs. Vitale shared that courtesy seating could not be accommodated as of yet. Courtesy seating by age and grade Mrs. Wilson spoke to bus scheduled not being kept due to new drivers. Head lice letter sent home to all families due to an increase in student’s having it this school year We hope to be able to email and electronic copy of our November newsletter to families.
