Remembrance Day – November 11
At the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month, Father Francis McSpiritt
School will remember those who made sacrifices so that we may live in freedom.
We are fortunate to live in such a wonderful country, full of opportunities and
freedoms. We thank our Canadian Veterans, and those who gave their lives, for
their courage, determination and sacrifices which helped to ensure we live in a
free and peaceful country. In times of war and conflict, peacekeeping men and
women sacrifice all their comforts and safety of home in order to defend the rights
and freedoms of others. We will remember them through prayer and thanksgiving.

MESSAGE FROM FATHER VITO
Dear parents, students, teachers and staff of our parish schools:
Greetings and blessings to all of you and all who are dear to you. By now our children have all settled in their
new grades, for some their new schools, new friends, new challenges. We at St. Patrick’s Church have also
been blessed with new families arriving and settling in our community. I am especially grateful for the
families who have welcomed the invitation to renew their commitment to Sunday Eucharist as they prepare
for those special and grace-filled events that will see their children celebrate their First Reconciliation, their
First Eucharist and their Confirmation. I hope you will find our community a place of welcome and please
remember that if there is anything I may do for you, I am only a phone call away.
For anyone still searching for a place to worship, find St. Patrick’s or other parishes in your neighbourhood, a
family ready to open their arms and welcome your presence, your needs, your prayers. May you experience
the love of Jesus in our journey together.
Fr. Francis McSpiritt November Newsletter 2015
The month of November begins with a very special feast. On its first day, we celebrate the Saints. We are
reminded that in baptism we have all been called to share in the life of the Holy One, the Son of God who
came among us to share the Father’s love. On the following day, November 2, we remember our brothers
and sisters who have gone before us, marked by the sign of faith. We pray that they be fully welcomed in the
place prepared for them since the foundation of the world. During the entire month of November we will
remember your loved ones at all masses.
We thank you for joining us in prayer, both in church and at home, and we pray that the love of God in us
may be translated into concrete actions every day of our life.
With prayerful best wishes,
Fr. Vito Marziliano, Pastor.
Personal Electronic Devices on Board Premises and/or Board Sanctioned Events
for Educational Purposes:
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board acknowledges the value of the use of technology for
learning. Students are permitted to register and use personal electronic devices (PEDs) on board premises
and/or board sanctioned events for educational purposes, under the direction of staff and only with
parent/guardian permission (GF 066, Network User Application and Agreement). Students may register
their PED for the purpose of connecting to the board wireless network. Students are required to adhere
to the student “Personal Electronic Device Used with WI-FI Network Student Agreement” and the
“Network User Application and Agreement.” Please be advised that the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District
School Board will not be responsible for any cost incurred through the use of personal data plans.
PEDs are to be used responsibly and should not interfere with learning; their use must comply with the
Catholic Code of Conduct, board policies and procedures. Any personal communications (i.e., phone
calls, text messages, etc.) will continue to be directed through the main office. Failure to comply with
these guidelines may result in a loss of PED privileges and/or any other consequences deemed necessary
by school administration.
The school principal may authorize limited acceptable uses of personal electronic devices during schoolsanctioned activities for a specific designated purpose outside of instructional spaces and/or in common
areas.
Students are responsible for the safety and security of PEDs at all times and the Board assumes no
responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen devices.

ATHLETICS
Congratulations to our Cross Country Team for an excellent run at Heart Lake Conservation Area.
Two of our students went to the Board finals on October 26. Thanks to our cross country coaches Mrs.
Dworaczak and Mrs. Newton, for their early morning training sessions and congratulations to our 2
students who went to the finals: Joshua and Paul.
The Intermediate Boys and Girls volleyball teams are practicing for their upcoming mini tournaments on
November 24, held here at Father Francis McSpiritt School. The boys will play in the AM and the girls will
play in the PM.
The Junior girls played in their mini tournament held in October and played well in all their matches. The
girls demonstrated sportsmanship, hard work and a positive attitude. Your coaches are very proud of
each of you. Congrats on a great season.
The Junior Boys played in the mini tournament held in October and played well in all their matches. The
boys ended up finishing first after the round robin. They went onto the family finals tournament and it
was a well-played match. They demonstrated sportsmanship, hard work and a positive attitude. Your
coaches are very proud of each of you. Congrats on a great season.
Safety in the Playground – Students are encouraged to experience their outdoor recess breaks in
an active and safe manner. To ensure the safety of our students, we have a few guidelines which
must be adhered to:
No Rough Play / Physical Contact – Students are to play games that do not involve
rough play. All games are to be played in a safe and respectful manner. If students
notice that rough play develops and becomes part of their activity, they are to
remove themselves from the game and report to a teacher on duty.
The PALS program is run by our Child and Youth Worker, Ms. Howarth along
with her student leaders. Students are invited to join the organized games in the
school yard at lunch time.
Safety in the front driveway - Please be reminded that ONLY busses are permitted to enter the
front driveway between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM. With the heavy rains, or snowy weather that will be
upon us soon, we want to remind parents that you should be using the Kiss”N” Ride at the side of
the school in the morning. Dropping off students at the front creates an unsafe environment for our
students. Parents who are late must park on the street.

Our Catholic School Council
We would like to thank our School Council members for all of their efforts with our major school
fundraiser of the year. Our Hallowe’en Dance-A-Thon was very much enjoyed by students and staff.
Stay tuned to hear about the amount of funds collected. Thank you to our school community for your
support and to the parents who volunteered to supervise.
Please join us on Wednesday, December 2nd at 6:30 PM for our school council meeting.
Everyone is welcome to join us whether or not you are part of council. We have a very active
council who plan activities and fundraisers for our school. Anyone who can help out is always
welcome.

Reminders and Resources: Cold and Flu Season
As cold and flu season approaches, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board continues to be
vigilant in ensuring that our schools are clean and that our school communities are educated regarding
good hand hygiene and cough etiquette. These practices are promoted on an ongoing basis, but as the
prevalence of colds and flu increases, our board increases the cleaning of contact surfaces, as well as
reminds schools to review cold and flu prevention with students and staff. Many resources are utilized
from our regional health units.
A reminder, as well, that communicable diseases can be contracted in public places throughout the year.
For example, cold-related viruses, such as Enterovirus, are transferred from person to person through
hand contact. Cold and flu viruses typically peak from December through February, but can start as early
as October.
