These students not only excel in the subject(s) they tutor, but are able to relate this material to other students in an understandable manner. They are reliable, conscientious and consistent. Please initial each of the following items to verify you understand and are committed to these principles: _____ 1. Tutors are required to meet with their scheduled tutoring assignments consistently and on time. If you have more than two unexcused absences, you are subject to dismissal. The following guidelines compose the policy for missing a session: You must notify the Tutoring Program Coordinator of the circumstances that prevent you from holding your session, so that she can find a replacement. Of course, emergencies happen that you can’t plan for, but, when possible, please inform the Tutoring Program Coordinator with at least a 24-hour advance notice. If you are cancelling an individual or small group tutoring session, please notify the students directly and, if necessary, reschedule your session, in addition to notifying the Tutoring Program Coordinator. If it’s a group session, the Tutoring Program Coordinator will either try to find a replacement for you, or post a sign on the meeting room door informing students of the cancellation. _____ 2. If no one shows up to attend your session within 20 minutes of its start, you should clock out and leave your station. During this 20minute waiting period, you are free to study while you are clocked in. _____ 3. As a tutor, you should never do the student’s work for them. You are a guide; the professor expects to be grading the work of the student NOT the tutor. You should also never share answers from your own homework assignments or tests from previous quarters, unless you have specific permission from the professor (as this is considered a form of cheating by most professors). It is important for students to learn the material on their own, not simply copy it from someone else. _____ 4. You are required to turn in a Tutoring Sessions Report Form weekly, either on Friday, Sunday or Monday. This report form will reflect information for that week’s tutoring sessions. _____ 5. It is strongly recommended that you communicate weekly with the professor(s) of the course(s) you are tutoring so that they know which of their students have been attending, and what topics you have covered. This also gives them an opportunity to suggest what they would like you to particularly stress in your tutoring sessions. _____ 6. It is very important that you communicate regularly and often with the Tutoring Program Coordinator. Be sure to let them know what your preferred means of communication is so that if she contacts you (regarding a session time or place, a new tutee, etc.), you will be able to respond promptly. _____ 7. If a student approaches you and asks for individual tutoring, refer them to the TLC to complete a formal request form. If you want the extra work time, and would like to work with the student, the Tutoring Program Coordinator may be able to set that up. _____ 8. There will be at least one mandatory meeting per quarter—usually at the beginning of the quarter. When you receive the notice of a meeting (usually sent through your PUC email), please RSVP which session you can attend. The only valid reason not to attend would be an emergency or illness. It is then your responsibility to schedule a meeting individually with the Tutoring Program Coordinator. _____ 9. Confidentiality must be maintained for the students you work with. Some have diagnosed learning disabilities and must be respected by maintaining their privacy. This means that you do not discuss specific issues or names with anyone not employed by the Teaching and Learning Center. Revised 01.2015 _____ 10. I certify that I am a PUC student in Regular Academic Standing which may be verified with the PUC Records Office. I, ____________________________________________ (please print your name), agree to the above policies, and understand that if I do not comply with them, I am subject to dismissal. _________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________ STUDENT SIGNATURE DATE Revised 01.2015
