Beverly Kaufman
Beverly Kaufman's 35-year career in public service began when
she joined the staff of the Harris County Judge. Beginning as a
part-time clerk, she ultimately served as Administrative
Assistant and Special Master hearing alcoholic beverage license
protests. She chaired projects involving all county departments
including the annual blood drive, the United Way campaign
and the Recycling Committee. She was liaison to the County
Library System, Personnel Committee, Risk Management and
the County Clerk's Office, as well as area Chambers of
Commerce and the Cultural Arts Council.
On March 11, 1994, Kaufman accepted the appointment of Harris County Commissioners Court to the office
of County Clerk. She was elected to a full four-year term in November 1994 by sixty-one percent (61.3%) and
reelected in 1998, 2002 and 2006. Her administration has expanded and streamlined services as well as
introduced electronic voting to our county. She was born in Houston and grew up on a farm in Waller County.
She was married 39 years to Al Kaufman, a retired printing salesman, and their daughter, Vanessa, is a media
production coordinator in Los Angeles.
