Digital Photo II: Advertising Photography Objectives: 1. To learn about advertising photography. 2. To consider how images affect our perception of the world and how they can be used to influence us. Fashion Photography or Product Illustration: Photograph clothing and/or accessories to express a particular idea (e.g., sophistication, elegance, and simplicity) about fashion. Or advertise a product by creating a still life or environment in which someone is using the product. List two or three qualities you want to convey in order to sell the product. Think about how you can visually express these qualities. Think about who your target audience is and what your slogan will be. Pay close attention to your lighting when shooting. Look at ads in magazines for inspiration. Be creative. Your photograph must sell this product. We will use Photoshop to create a magazine cover or final advertisement using one of your photos and your slogan and/or other written information about the product. In small groups brainstorm some ideas, and make word associations to the topic or theme. Come up with some possible slogans. Individually, spend time sketching out ideas and gathering any supplies you may need. Composition: •Use the rule of thirds when possible. Keep your compositions simple and crop out nonessentials. Crop through the viewfinder! •Leave negative space for the text/slogan. •Use lighting in thoughtful, purposeful ways to express your idea clearly. Technical Info: •Focus and expose your images properly. Use a grey card or other substitution readings. •Bracket your exposures when needed. •If you want to use the studio and soft box or strobe in school, arrangements can be made. •Consider how b&w or color might affect your images. Use color if it adds something meaningful; otherwise use b&w to simplify the image. In Photoshop you can also hand color select areas or all over. 30 or more IMAGES DUE: _________________
