Chemistry 1 6.0 Grading Policy
I. Evaluation:
A. Tests – about 1 per chapter, valuing 50 to 100 points per marking period.
B. Quizzes - announced and unannounced from classwork, homework and labs. These
will range from 5 to 40 points each.
C. Homework – will be checked randomly. If all homework assignments are completed,
your marking period grade will increase by 2%. If you miss 1 or 2 assignments, your
grade will not be affected. If you miss more than 2 assignments during a marking
period, your grade will decrease 1% for each assignment missed.
D. Labs - usually 1 double period experiment per cycle; students will take pre or post
quizzes on labs and/or turn in a laboratory report for grading. Formal Lab reports will be
required for some labs.
II. Assignments:
A. All assignments must be turned in promptly on the due date during class collection.
B. If a student is having difficulty with an topic or assignment, you can speak to me before or after
class or email me at the above address. I will be available before and after school for extra help, but
I will not know you need help if don’t ask for it.
C. Late assignments will be accepted one day late for half credit.
D. Plagiarized work will not be graded and result in an automatic zero.
E. If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed
and the due date by checking with a classmate or the teacher.
F. In case of absence, all assignments are due the day after you return to class; tests, labs, and
quizzes must be made up within one cycle upon return from absence; extended
absences excluded. Unexcused absence and class cuts or truancy will result in automatic
zeros on all missed tests, quizzes, labs and homework assignments missed on that day.
G. Assignments not turned in and tests, labs, or quizzes not made up within the one cycle period
will become a zero. This is your responsibility.
H. An absence from class such as group, student government or field trips still
requires you to turn in any assignments due during the day and to check the homework
for the following day. (If you are in school during any part of the day.)

III. Grades:
A. Your grade will be determined by the total number of points you accumulate during
a marking period divided by the total possible points to produce a percentage score.
Percentages will be assigned the following grades:
A+
A
B+
B
C+
C
D
F
= 97-100%
= 90-96%
= 87-89%
= 80-86%
= 77-79%
= 70-76%
= 65-69%
= Below 65%
*Note: As a final grade, if your average is 50 -64%, you will receive an “E” and remediation is
possible through summer school; if your final average is below 50.00%, you will receive
an F and no remediation will be permitted.
B. Students and parents will be informed of unsatisfactory performance via school issued interim
reports. Also, home access center is updated regularly.
C. The final course grade will be calculated using the following percentiles:
21% for each marking period
16% for final exam
Note: The midterm exam is 10% of the 2nd marking period grade.
