Course Resources: Parenting Rewards and Responsibilities textbook Course Objective and/or Description: This course is designed to aid students in developing parenting and care giving skills that can be applied in a variety of situations. Major topics include becoming an informed parent, caring for the newborn, being an effective parent/caregiver and exploring career opportunities in care giving. Leadership development will be provided through the Family, Careers, and Community Leaders of America. Your grade will be determined by dividing the number of points you have by the total number of possible points. Scale: 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D 59-below F Classroom Rules: Rule #1 Be Respectful Rule #2 Be Prompt Rule #3 Be Prepared Consequences: Verbal Warning Teacher /Student Conferences Parent Contact Office Referral Tests/Unit Exams: 100 point each Tests will be administered after completion of unit of study. Tests will be comprised of multiple choice and open response questions. There will be an open response style question on every test, and students will be assessed on their knowledge of content as well as their writing skills. On Demand Writing Every student will complete at least one on demand writing prompt. This activity will be administered in class and will assess the students’ ability to read, write, and think in a timed setting. The state approved writing rubric will be used to evaluate student responses. Portfolio Entry Every student will complete a portfolio entry in this class. Every entry must be typed and grammatically correct. Students will be assessed using the state approved writing rubric. Homework Point values will be assigned to individual homework assignments. The teacher reserves the right to alter this syllabus at any time during the course Late Grade Policy Major assignments not turned in on time will be penalized at the rate of 10 points per day for a maximum of 3 days. If the student does not turn the assignment in within 3 days, a 0 will be recorded. Attendance Policy: Students have as many days as they missed to make up assignments and/ or tests due to an excused absence. Work may be made up before or after school and must be scheduled with the course instructor. Semester Test Policy: Students are required to take the semester exam. Plagiarism / Academic Dishonesty Policy: Plagiarism and academic dishonesty are serious offenses. The academic work of a student is expected to be his/her own effort. Students must give the author(s) credit for any source material used. To represent ideas or interpretations taken from a source without giving credit is a flagrant act. To present a borrowed passage after having changed a few words, even if the source is cited, is also plagiarism. Students who commit any act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade in that portion of the course work. Acts of academic dishonesty will be reported to the administration.
