Test Study Guide for Soil Nutrients/Pesticides and Water Qualities/Pollution
How to study for the test: There are many resources available to you to study for this exam and you should utilize all of them! You need to make sure to study notes given in class, packets handed out during the unit, HW completed, labs we did in class, and any other additional resources that I have posted on my website (I posted many websites, animations, videos for you to watch and help you study!!!)

Soil nutrients o Know N-P-K. o Be able to determine and recognize the various components of these major nutrients in soil o Know the effects of pH o Notes & Read 3.7 pgs. 242 – 247 for reinforcement. o Be able to read N-P-K values and choose an organic and synthetic fertilizer to create a healthy soil for growing. o Be able to pick various substances that either raise or lower pH. o Explain the advantages and disadvantages of synthetic and organic fertilizers o pg. 247 & Fertilizer lab.

Pesticides and Pest Management o Be able to describe the history of pesticides and the effects of chlorinated hydrocarbons on the environment. o Be able to describe the use and effects of DDT o Be able to explain the various techniques of integrated pest management. o Notes & pgs. (249 - 256) ( 275 -281)

Water Quality o Be able to explain the major physical and chemical factors that affect water (temp. D.O. etc.). o Be able to recognize which values aquatic organism would prefer based on the ranges measured in ppm. o Be able to recognize values that would indicate pollution o Homework readings and questions 4.4 pgs. 305 – 311. Pg. 312 questions 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 18,
20, 22 o Be able to describe the major sources of water pollution in PA as well as the pollutants involved and their effect on the environment o Handout and chart in your notebook o Know the answers to the “Coral Reef Adventure” movie in relation to Water Quality!

Watersheds o Be able to explain the concepts of watersheds. o Be able to describe/label stream order (numbering of streams based on size) o Be able to compare and the various transitions of aquatic environments in PA by explaining how the physical composition of those environments determines what live there. Wetlands o Be able to explain and recognize the three wetland types. o The three factors used to determine a wetland. o Various benefits of wetlands to the environment and society. o Handout with questions
