The Virtue for May is
Acceptance
Listen to our prayers
And help us in our needs.
Save us from every danger,
Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
Amen
The virtue of Acceptance
means we accept ourselves
and others just the way we are.
God created all of us in His image, and God does not make
mistakes. Being a part of
God’s family means that we
love and welcome everyone
just the way Jesus did. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where it is easier to follow the crowd than to stand up
for what we know is right.
However, Jesus wants us to
accept everyone even when it
is hard.

Permission to Leave School
Newsletter #8
In order to ensure the safety of
all students, we need to know
their whereabouts at all times.
Students who stay for lunch are
not permitted to leave the property unless they have a dated,
signed note, informing their
teacher that they have
parent/guardian permission to
leave the property. Students
must be signed out if they are
leaving the school for any reason
and receive an admit slip upon
their arrival/return to school. It
is important to continue to remind students about traffic
safety and safe crossing practices. To ensure their safety, we
encourage our students to cross
the street using the Crossing
Guards, and/or at stop signed or
stop light corners. Helping to
keep our children safe is a priority at St. John Bosco Catholic
Elementary School.
Grade Eight Graduation
The grade 8 graduation ceremonies will
take place on
Wednesday, June
22nd at 7:00 p.m. at
St. John Bosco
School. The Graduation Mass will
take place the same day at 10:00 AM
at St. Marguerite d’Youville Parish
followed by a luncheon and dance.
Further details will be provided to
the Grade 8 parents in the near future

Over exposure to the sun can cause skin
damage. Please remind your children to take
precautions to protect their skin during outdoor activities on Spring and Summer days.
The following are some suggestions to help
protect the skin:
Wear protective clothing to cover the skin.
Wear a hat to protect both eyes and skin.
When possible, stay out of direct sunlight,

Keep Our School Safe & Secure
We ask that our parents and visitors to the school enter through
the front door ONLY and receive
a visitor pass from the office. All
exterior doors are kept locked
during school hours for the safety of our students. Please do not
ask students or staff to open
doors from other locations in the
building to drop lunches, visit
classrooms, etc. We thank you in
advance for following this important school safety rule.
In May, the Ontario Education Quality and
Accountability Office (EQAO) will conduct

throughout the publicly funded school systems. The tests for Grade 3 students and
for Grade 6 students will take place between May 25th and June 8th. Parents and
guardians are encouraged to avoid scheduling any doctor’s appointments or any other
appointments that would take your child
out of school during the testing dates.

With the warm weather approaching, we
would again like to take this opportunity to
review the dress code expectations at St.
John Bosco.
As a Catholic school, we believe that there
must be a commitment to high standards of
modesty, neatness, cleanliness and good
taste. Therefore, while halter-tops, short
shorts, muscle shirts, and similar clothing
may be acceptable for beach wear, they are
not appropriate for classroom instruction.
Shirts should be of appropriate length. No
midriffs or belly buttons should be showing.
Shorts and skirts should be the appropriate
length for school (e.g., longer than the length
of your arm and hand when held at the side
of your body). Suggestive or inappropriate
language or violent symbols are not permitted
on any clothing or personal belongings. Sunglasses, hats, (including bandanas worn as
head covering) are not to be worn inside the
school. Non-marking running shoes are to be
worn during physical education classes.
Summer Literacy Camp
Summer Literacy Camp is a THREE WEEK program.
Begins the second week of July and runs from July
11th‐29th
Half‐day program – 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday to Friday

For SK to Grade 6 students

be invited to register.
The program is best suited to serve the needs of students who meet the following criteria:
Student performance is at Level 1 or 2 of the Provincial
Curriculum in Reading and Writing

appropriate grade level
Report Cards are Legal
Documents
Often times, parents are
asked to share a legal document verifying information
about their child’s attendance in school for the purposes of immigration, child
tax credits, citizenship, etc. Parents are
reminded that your child’s Report Cards
are legal documents which can be used
for these purposes. Please remember to
keep your child’s report cards as you may
require them for the future.
If ELL, the student performs at ELL Stage 2 or higher
Please see additional information included in the newsletter.

Extra Clothing at School
With the rainy season upon us,
there are puddles and
mud in the schoolyard
where children can
get wet socks and
clothing. Our school
approach is to contact
parents to bring dry
clothing when needed. This is often
inconvenient for parents. Therefore
may we suggest that you place an
extra pair of socks and track pants
in your child’s backpack in the event
that a change of clothing is necessary.
SAFETY NOTICE SEWER
DANGERS
Parents and guardians are reminded to educate their children of the dangers of playing
near access covers, inlets and/or outlets, including the following points:
- water flows in storm sewers and watercourses are unpredictable and may change
quickly;
- toxic gases may be present;
- tragic falls could take place;
- access is restricted, and therefore, rescue
attempts are difficult.

of Brampton Works & Transportation Department at 905-874-2503.

On-Line Reporting Tool
The Dufferin‐Peel Catholic District School board has developed
a new way to help nurture a safe,
caring and inclusive school
environment. The Online Reporting Tool is intended for students in grades 3 – 8 who become aware of bullying incidents
and negative behaviours. The
student can simply ‘click’ on the
link found on our school’s website to fill out the report. The
report will then be directly
emailed to the principal to be
dealt with accordingly. It is important to recognize that the
Online Reporting Tool is an alternate reporting option. It is best
practice to speak directly with a
responsible adult at home and/or
in the school.
