Ends the War of Spanish
Succession (17021713)
Terms of the treaty are as
follows:
(PS- this treaty still has
effects on the geography of
Europe!!)
1. Philip V was allowed
to keep Spain and its
colonies
2)
The Spanish and
French thrones were
never to be allowed to
be combined!!!!
3) Austria was given the
Spanish Netherlands.(so
now they are called the
Austrian Netherlands.)
4. Austria also gets
Naples, Milan and
Sardinia.
5) Savoy gets Sicily and
is recognized as a
kingdom (retains hold
on Italy until 1866)
6) United Netherlands gets
back many border towns
lost to Louis XIV. Uses the
Austrian Netherlands as a
“DMZ” against French
aggression.
7. England gets the
most!!! Spain gives up
Minorca and
Gilbralter!!!
7.5. England gets territory in
New World : Nova Scotia,
Newfoundland, Hudson Bay
region,beginning the process
of pushing the French out of
the New World!!!!
