(Comedy, drama, action, etc.) How have the experts described the animator’s most important style of work? Did the Animator have more than one style? What were they? What were you able to discover about the animator’s family or childhood? What kind of education did the animator receive? What other events, circumstances or influences were important in the animator’s development? Describe some of the most important accomplishments of the animator? How are the principles of art used to organize the art elements of line, color, shape, form, space, and texture? Analyze the character in relation of the principles of design (balance, emphasis, rhythm, movement, pattern, proportion, unity and variety) 3. Your interpretation can be based on your feelings, but your feelings must be backed up by observation of what you actually see in the character design. What are all of the parts of the work doing? What experience does the animator want you to have? Why do you have this reaction to the work? Interpret the importance of the work. 4. Judgment: What do you think of the work? In this step of art criticism you decide if the character design is successful or not. You must determine the degree of artistic merit. This is the time to make your own decisions. The first is personal – do you like it? The second is subjective – is it successful? You might like the work but not think it is a successful piece; or you may not like the work but know it is a very good work. What criteria are appropriate for judging this work? Why? Identify the sources of your criteria. These might be general knowledge from your life experience, your knowledge of art and art theories, or opinions offered by experts.
