Expertise Help Microfluidic Diagnostic
Devices Become Precise and Accurate
Health professionals and consumers alike are always on the hunt for the
next breakthrough devices that make any medical experience faster, more
convenient, and cost-effective. For more manufacturers, these market
demands can often-times be difficult to meet, while maintaining the sterile,
high-quality standards that are also required.
With the use of state-of-the-art digital laser technologies, Fabrico Medical is
building microfluidic diagnostic devices that are more precise and accurate
than ever, and can meet any Medical OEM’s specifications.
What is a Microfluidic Device?
Microfluidic devices are tools designed and manufactured with the purpose
of testing small medical, food, or environmental samples. From blood,
electrolytes (e.g. sodium and potassium) and arrays measuring hematocrit/
hemoglobin, blood gases, coagulation, drug screening, and cardiac markers
can be measured. In the instance of agricultural applications, farmers can
use these tools for rapid bacteria testing.

The application of these devices has historically been confined to the
laboratory, particularly for DNA analysis or drug discovery, but that custom
is evolving into a practice that is highly portable. This change will make the
use for a microfluidic device possible for many “in the field” applications.
These devices at the forefront of Point-of-care testing will allow patients
with chronic medical conditions to monitor themselves at home.

integrated consumable
Fabrico Medical has formed strategic partnerships with world-class suppliers,
such as 3M and DuPont, that enable us to offer leading-edge materials to our
customers and, where needed, to work with suppliers to provide unique customer solutions. Whether adhesive films or liquid, all critical material properties
are considered in any Fabrico Medical project, including chemical, thermal,
and moisture resistance.

Quality Control
Flexible components play an integral part in the design and
manufacture of microfluidic consumables. Fabrico Medical
can help to design and manufacture many of these
components including:
• Specific layers for biosensors
• Integrated consumables for a lab-on-chip application
• Hydrophilic fluid transport technologies
• Membranes
• Custom microfluidic channels and structures
The manufacturing of these sensitive devices must be done in
a quality-controlled, clean room environment, where they can
be produced, assembled, and packaged without contamination.
Fabrico Medical has multiple Class 10,000 (ISO 7) clean rooms
which ensure the proper, high-level quality required for
medical appliances.
Selecting the Right Converter
Fabrico Medical prides itself on its ability to convert customized
devices and disposables according to any Medical OEM’s
specifications. Design engineers are always available to help
with projects and have the ability to produce parts with:
• Laser cut feature tolerances as small as 100 µm or (0.004")
• Fixed beam etchings focused down to 70 µm
• Position features tolerances as low as 50 µm (or 0.002")
• Microfluidic channels as narrow as 125 µm (or 0.005"),
positioned within a tolerance of 50 µm (or 0.002")
In addition to helping with the product design, our
manufacturing experts can create a repeatable, high-volume,
high-speed process that meets specified performance
characteristics, such as flow rates.
Additionally, Fabrico Medical upholds these certifications
and standards:
• ISO 9001:2008
• ISO 13485:2003
• FDA Registration #3001032418
