We are able to be open with each other. We care about the earth we live on. Precious gifts from God, both teachers and children share with and learn from each other, leading to a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us. God's forgiveness and love are modelled in our lives. In our daily work and learning may we be witnesses to Christ's death and resurrection. We realize our responsibility to share our gift s and serve others. PRAYER Prayer is an essential component in experiencing God’s presence and in developing a relationship with God and Mary. Various forms of prayer are used in class and during liturgies. • Prayer is experienced as a whole community over the Public Address system, during mass and as a class; • Each Classroom has a prayer table and students are encouraged to pray throughout the day - beginning of school day, before lunch and at dismissal; • Prayers are posted in all classrooms for learning and habit; • In class, students may share prayers they have made in the context of their religion programme; • Formal prayers i.e. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Apostle’s Creed are taught, shared and practiced; • Prayers are also spoken in the French Language both as a class and as a whole school; • Throughout the day for special occasions and/or intentions, prayer is integral i.e. praying for others, praying for the healing of relatives; • Each time we meet or gather as an adult community, whether it be for a staff meeting or as a School Council, we begin with prayer; • Focus on the order of the Mass. CATECHESIS Religion is taught and incorporated throughout the day by all of the adults in the school, as we foster a sense of Christ’s caring and family with our students. This is evidenced as we assist our students with their interactions with peers and adults. Religion, as a result, is taught anytime that a teachable moment presents itself. • Religion Programme: Canadian Catechism; • Family Life Programme: Fully Alive; • Students say prayers over the P.A. System; • Stations of the Cross - classes are invited to pray and meditate on Christ ’s suffering; • Celebrating mass; • Teaching responses of the mass; • Gospel messages inform the Catholic Code of Behaviour with a focus on restitution and meaningful consequences consistent with who we are as practicing Catholics. RETREATS / FAITH OPPORTUNITIES • Grade 8 students attend Friday Masses as part their Confirmation preparation; • Grade 2 and 8 students will attend a faith retreat in preparation for Communion and Confirmation; • School Faith Ambassadors facilitate faith development for the staff; • Student Council leads Liturgies of the Word i.e. weekly prayer sessions during the seasons of Advent and Lent; • Whenever we gather together as a staff and Catholic School Council we begin in prayer; • Personal Faith Formation opportunities for staff through St. Anne’s Church; • Staff are encouraged to participate in the retreats offered by the Church, Board and conferences which highlight our Catholic Faith.
