A Christmas Prayer
Dear God,
You sent your son, Jesus,
as the light of the world.
His birth broke through the darkness
of sin and brought hope and
and love to a world in desperate need.
Our world is still in need
of his love and hope.
Continue to let the birth of Christ
shine as a beacon
for those who live in fear, and
as joy for those who live in sadness.
All things are possible through you.
Amen
Best wishes for a blessed Christmas
season from all the staff at
St. Anne School.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH
STUDENT ACTIVITIES (con’t)
This month we will celebrate the virtue of HOPE. We
believe that God comes to us as a real human who can
show us the way of life. We understand that both the
world and its people are from God and so are essentially
good. God has given us this Advent season year after year
in order to focus our minds and our hearts on the good all
around us.
The Giving Tree
This is an opportunity to give to those
in need in our local community. Red
angel tags with the age/gender of a
student who would benefit from a toy
donation this Christmas have been
placed on the tree found in our front
lobby. If you wish to participate,

CURRICULUM FOCUS
LITERACY TIPS FOR PARENTS*
Talk With Your Child
It may seem obvious, but it is as important to listen as it is
to talk with your child. Children develop the skills for
reading and writing through both talking and listening.
Talk also builds your child’s capacity for understanding
new things. This kind of talk goes beyond telling your
child something to having a conversation with him or her.
Here are some ways to get this kind of talk going in your
home:
 Talk with your child about problems and solutions.
 Make sure your child has time to think.
 Talk with your child in his or her first language.
 Ask questions that will lead your child to talk about
his or her ideas.
It is very important both to listen to children read aloud
and to continue to read to them after they become independent, fluent readers. There are many different ways of
reading together: taking turns reading pages, reading in
unison and stopping to talk through the reading. Children
choose books about topics that interest them, and your
interest in the same books will lead to rich conversations
that will build talking and listening skills.
As you are listening
 If it’s a book being read, show your child that you are
enjoying the book by being curious/asking questions.
 Make connections to what he/she already knows.
 Rephrase what you are hearing.
 Be patient. Make sure your child has enough time to
figure out tricky words.
 After reading, talk about interesting or puzzling parts
of the book.

OUTDOOR RECESS
At times, the weather conditions will not allow students to
go outside for recess. School staff follow the DufferinPeel Catholic District School Board Policy and the Peel
Public Health Cold Weather Guidelines which direct
schools to modify recess when temperatures reach -200C
(with or without wind chill) so they are outside for no
longer than 20 minutes. If the temperature outside reaches -250C (with or without wind chill), the Board policy
states that all children will be kept indoors. We continue
to monitor weather conditions regularly throughout the
day and make decisions based upon our local conditions.
All students are asked to bring a pair of indoor shoes to
school. Students are to change into their indoor shoes
when in the building. This will help to keep our classrooms clean and dry. For their own safety, students are
expected to wear shoes at all times during the school day.
Please keep in mind that running shoes or sneakers are
required for participation in gym classes. If your child
does not have the proper footwear for Physical Education, they will not be allowed to participate that day.
LOST & FOUND ITEMS
PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Our Lost and Found bin is full of various items of clothing! Please ensure that you label all of your child’s clothing and discuss with him or her the importance of looking
in the Lost and Found box for missing articles. We will
display items on tables during the last week before the
break. Please take a look at these items when you are at
the school next or during the evening of the Christmas
Open House. The bin is located down the hall from the
Small Gym across from the Girls’ washroom. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity during the Christmas Break.
Dufferin-Peel CDSB Policy states that all Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) must be kept out of sight, turned
off and not used on school premises or during schoolsanctioned activities, such as, retreats, field trips, sports
events, etc. unless given permission by a staff member.
This includes when students are riding
the bus. To prevent loss or damage of
PEDs, we encourage students to leave
them at home unless they are invited by
their teacher to bring them to class for
use during a lesson/activity.

Loving God,
As Mary and Joseph were finally welcomed at the inn,
help us to welcome the people in our lives with respect
and love.
At this time of hope,
We pray for all those who are displaced
and becoming refugees in new lands.
May they find comfort and welcoming hearts.
Strengthen us to be open to caring for the stranger
who is in need of mercy and compassion.
May this Advent season be a prayerful time for enjoying
the gift of community
and embracing a spirit of mercy and kindness.
We make this prayer in the name of Jesus, our savior and
hope for the world.
Amen.
