Catholic School Learning Plan for St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Annual Progress Report Shared Priorities: Creating Catholic Conditions for Well-Being, Learning and Leading Outcomes: 1. By June 2016 there will be an increase in the proportion of students indicating that they are likely to report incidents at school, as demonstrated by the CCCC survey. Outcome Progress Comments 6/4/2015: We have noticed an increase in student's comfort-level in reporting incidents to the administration, support staff, and teachers. 6/4/2015: We promoted Bullying Awareness Week from November 16-22, 2014. During this week we had announcements, visual displays, guest speakers, and assemblies that supported our message of acceptance. 6/4/2015: This year we continued with our initiatives to promote safe and healthy schools. We completed our Kid's Help Phone walk on May 14th, 2015 to raise awareness and money for this crisis line. We invited CAMH to deliver a Mental Health Awareness Assembly to our Grade 10 students on May 12, 2015. Shared Priorities: Building Collaborative Practices Through Inquiry Outcomes: 2. By June 2016, there will be an increase in the proportion of educators who are confident to apply knowledge gained through Professional Learning opportunities. Outcome Progress Comments 6/4/2015: Staff collaborated to review Assessment & Evaluation processes to support student learning and increase student achievement. 6/4/2015: Staff led professional development on the use of Smart tags. This will help to engage students' proper use of Personal Electronic Devices in the classroom. 6/4/2015: Two teachers from our school were sent for training on First Nations Metis Inuit for the potential creation of a course/program. 6/4/2015: Teachers have participated in training for our i-Pad technology initiatives. By June 2016 there will be an increase in the proportion of students who have demonstrated improvement on the learning skill and work habit of self-regulation. Outcome Progress Comments 6/4/2015: Departments held a course information fair in the Matrix for students in Grades 9-11 to learn about the various courses offered prior to the course selection process. 6/4/2015: Select Grade 12 classes participated in College and University visits to explore post-secondary options. 6/4/2015: Grade 11 and 12 students were given the opportunity to attend various College and University presentations at St. Michael. Transitional programs such as apprenticeships, co-op, and Dual Credit were promoted for our senior students. 6/4/2015: Grade 10 Girls Night In was held on November 21, 2014 to promote self-esteem, healthy and active living, and mental health awareness. Grade 10 Boys participated in morning intramurals in soccer, basketball, and volleyball. 6/4/2015: Grade level parent/student assemblies completed over the course of the school year. Two Grade 8 parent nights were held, one in November and one in June. In addition, school staff met individually with selected parents to provide individual support for program planning. Transition team met with feeder schools to promote the "Get Ready" Program for Grade 9 transitions. 6/4/2015: Grade 9 students participated in a Spirit Day in March. It included activities such as skiing, skating, and a visit to Playdium. This allowed students the opportunity to collaborate and build relationships. 6/4/2015: Staff implemented the use of Success Criteria checklists for Learning Skills and Work Habits with our Grade 9 students. This enhanced student responsibility in goal setting and metacognitive practices. Shared Priorities: Knowing the Learner through Assessment Outcomes: 4. By June 2016 there will be an increase in the proportion of educators who increased their understanding of assessment for and as learning. Outcome Progress Comments 6/4/2015: The CSLT reviewed Data Indicators from Semester One to inform the areas for improvement in supporting our learners in the areas of Mathematics and Literacy. 6/4/2015: Staff participated in professional learning communities relating to Assessment and Evaluation practices. 6/4/2015: Each department has established individual departmental inquiries that focus on moving students from one level to the next. Overall school focus is on formative assessment. This includes the use of descriptive feedback and self-assessment to increase student metacognition and improve student achievement.. By June 2016 there will be an increase in the proportion of students improving their EQAO achievement level between assessment years. Outcome Progress Comments 6/4/2015: Grade 9 Math students created "Math Survival Guides" as part of their Culminating Performance Task. This provided an opportunity for students to reflect on and synthesize their learning throughout the semester. Various forms of technology and media were used to share their summaries. 6/4/2015: Numeracy classes were held in both Semesters for Grade 9 students to support preparation for the Grade 9 Math EQAO. 6/4/2015: Students created and shared "Literacy Tips and Strategies" to assist students with preparing for the OSSLT. 6/4/2015: A Literacy Meeting was held for Grade 10 parents in October 2014. The results from the Grade 9 Practice test was reviewed with parents. The literacy test preparation plan was shared with parents and remediation programs for individual students was discussed.
