Metropolitan Andrei Separate School Learning Plan Mission * The staff of Metropolitan Andrei Catholic School celebrate spirituality and diversity through achieving, believing and community living in an inclusive Catholic environment. Our community strives to teach and live in harmony with Christ’s teachings. As a community, we are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment, which enhances the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social and physical development of our students. As a community committed to working together, we achieve success by educating students to their full potential. We act and learn as a Catholic community. We demonstrate our love for God by respecting each other, by the acceptance of responsibility and by striving to fully develop our abilities. Motto "Learn, love, give and lead" is our motto at Metropolitan Andrei. All activities at Metropolitan Andrei School, academic and pastoral work, extracurricular, prayer and worship help to prepare our students for their lives as Catholics in the community. Catholic Focus At Metropolitan Andrei School our commitment to academic excellence is a shared responsibility. As a Staff and School Council, we work hard bringing together students, parents, pastoral team, trustees, and other partners to form a Catholic Community in the service of the spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional needs of students in our care. We are a caring community that stresses tolerance and acceptance of others, commitment to our Catholic faith and high academic standards. We provide a safe and comfortable learning environment where models of Gospel values and Catholic doctrines, teachings and beliefs are an integral part of the daily life of our school. All activities at the school, academic and pastoral work, extracurricular and intra-curricular, prayer and worship, administration and management help to prepare our students for their lives as Catholics in the community to “learn, love, give and lead”. Our students come to us with a variety of strengths and needs, with their Catholic faith as their common bond. Our prayer life, liturgical celebrations, the sacraments, and our faith and values system form the foundations of our school programme. We are proud of our balanced religion, academic, arts, technology and athletics programs. We offer students a well rounded and value –centred education to help them make good choices for the future. The curriculum planned and provided in the school is broad, balanced and relevant to the needs and aspirations of all our students. A wide range of subjects and learning experiences are offered to develop the skills, abilities and talents of individual students. Accordingly, appropriate assessment procedures are employed regularly to motivate and encourage student success. To ensure coherence and wholeness, subjects are taught against the background of the Ontario Curriculum, the Gospel values of Jesus Christ and sound educational practices. Core Principles The Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board underwent a 2008-2009 Strategic System Review, commissioned by trustees to help shape the board's five year strategic plan. This review included meetings with a variety of stakeholders, web-based information and a comprehensive survey of the community. As a result of this review process, five core principles and their corresponding goals were identified for the board's 2010-2015 strategic plan and they are as follows: Catholicity Powered by SkoVision™ 12/17/2015 10:12:06 AM 1/6 Metropolitan Andrei Separate School Learning Plan The school community models, celebrates and nourishes gospel values in the teaching and learning of our Christ-centred programs and service. Evidence of this can be seen through the virtues programs; Youth Faith Ambassador Program; Social Justice Projects such as Operation Christmas Child, -Support for Dr. Simone; Community Outreach projects e.g.Food Drives, Christmas & Easter Gift Cards; and ShareLife Activities. Metropolitan Andrei's school masses, Sacramental Preparation, and Reconciliation are key components of our Christ-centred programs which help to develop our students core beliefs in the gospel values.
