Annual Progress Report
Shared Priorities:
Creating Catholic Conditions for Well-Being, Learning and Leading
Outcomes:
1.0 By June 2016, there will be an increase in successful practices that support student wellbeing.
Outcome Progress Comments
6/4/2015: St. Aidan creates Catholic conditions which support student well-being through our Virtues Program and
Bullying Prevention initiatives. The school hosts monthly Virtue assemblies which focus on anti-bullying. The school
partners with Peel Public Health, Peel Regional Police, MTC Life, guest speakers and other agencies to provide a
variety of opportunities for students to develop strong and respectful peer and community relationships. St. Aidan
engages families in promoting well-being through events such as Boys' Day and Girls' Day, Christmas Mingle and
Jingle, Brain Gym and The Ned Show. Students also participate in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Peer Mentoring
Program in conjunction with St. Edmund Campion staff and students. Students have opportunities to demonstrate
leadership in social justice and outreach programs which support organizations such as Dr. Simone's Canadian Food
for Children, Knights Table, ShareLife and the Guardian Angels Parish Church Building Fund.
Shared Priorities:
Building Collaborative Practices Through Inquiry
Outcomes:
2.0 By June 2016, there will be an increase in successful practices that support collaborative
inquiry.
Outcome Progress Comments
6/4/2015: St. Aidan staff are engaged in a school-wide collaborative inquiry with the following focus: "If we
intentionally provide effective descriptive feedback (from a growth mindset) during assessment for & as learning
opportunities, then students will be more successful in demonstrating their learning." Staff have observed that
giving students effective descriptive feedback has resulted in improved achievement. At monthly staff meetings,
staff are engaged in professional development related to inquiry-based learning. Collaborative inquiry is most
evident in our Full Day Kindergarten program, and we are working to grow the inquiry approach in the primary
division and beyond.

Shared Priorities:
Enhancing Transitional Practices
Outcomes:
3.0 By June 2016, there will be an increase in successful practices that support transitional
practices.
Outcome Progress Comments
6/4/2015: All identified students have a transition plan included in their IEP to support transitions from one grade
to another. A number of practices are in place to support the transition of grade 8 students to grade 9. Staff from
St. Edmund Campion attend our school to support grade 8 students in the use of the "My Blueprint" program.
Teachers, resource staff and administration from St. Aidan and St. Edmund Campion hold a transition meeting to
individually review all students moving from grade 8 to grade 9. St. Edmund Campion staff and students also work
with St. Aidan students through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Peer Mentoring Program. Students entering school for
the first time and their families are invited to our Welcome to Kindergarten Night where they engage in activities
which introduce them to inquiry-based learning in the FDK program. The school's Speech and Language Pathologist
also presents to parents regarding Speech and Language services available through the school for those parents
who may have concerns regarding their child's language development. Other community partners who attend WTK
to support the transition include: YMCA Before/After School Program, Settlement Worker, Cassie Campbell
Community Centre, and Catholic School Council.
Shared Priorities:
Knowing the Learner through Assessment
Outcomes:

learner through assessment.
Outcome Progress Comments
6/4/2015: The focus of our school-wide collaborative inquiry is providing descriptive feedback during assessment
for and as learning: "If we intentionally provide effective descriptive feedback (from a growth mindset) during
assessment for and as learning opportunities, then students will be more successful in demonstrating their
learning." Staff have observed that giving students effective descriptive feedback has resulted in improved
achievement. As part of the inquiry, staff have been provided with the book, "How to Give Effective Feedback to
Your Students" by Susan Brookhart, which has been a focus of professional learning at staff meetings. Staff have
also reviewed and reflected on the principles of assessment for, as and of learning using Growing Success and the
School Effectiveness Framework as resources.
