PORTFOLIO PREP - PORTRAIT #2 (PORTRAIT OF ANOTHER) LESSON FOCUS: This lesson focuses on creating an expressive, interesting portrait of a friend or family member from direct observation. VOCABULARY: Expressive qualities: The feelings, moods, and ideas communicated to the viewer through a work of art. Portrait: The image of a person’s face. It can be made of any sculptural material or any twodimensional medium. Proportion: principle of design concerned with size relationships of one part to the whole and one part to another. Self-portrait: A portrait of the artist created by the artist. Symbol: A form, image, or subject representing a meaning other than the one with which it is usually associated PROCEDURE: go over the general rules of proportion for drawing faces ask someone (either a friend or family member) to pose for you decide what viewpoint, symbols, images, marks, etc. You will use to create your portrait do you want to focus on the face only, or do you want to include some of the body? once you have a strong idea and composition, enlarge onto good paper finish using materials of your choice.
