Committee: General Assembly Topic: Gender Equality and Economic Development Sponsors: Cameroon The General Assembly, Alarmed at the number of reported and unreported cases of girls between the ages of 15 and 19 being abducted and forced into marriage, Taking note that although primary school enrollment rates for girls have increased in the past decade, significant gaps in secondary and college education remain, Alarmed by the fact that in 2014, women still comprise only 21.4 percent of elected representatives in governments worldwide, 1. Expresses its hope that all countries around the world form programs and health centers for women who are victims of domestic violence and abuse, the funding for which should be provided by pulling 2% out of each member states’ military budget; 2. Further recommends beginning a sponsorship program, in which corporations fund young women’s higher education in exchange for the recipients’ commitment to work at said corporation for a specified period of time; 3.
