Cisco Networking Academy
Military Veterans
Deploy your own force
multiplier in the job market.
One thing we know about the future: it will
be networked. Get a tactical jump on that
future by leveraging Cisco Networking
Academy® courses to multiply your
occupational strengths.
Your military experience counts with civilian employers. Whatever your service specialty,
Networking Academy courses can boost your job prospects and help you build a
career. Computer networking skills are valued in virtually every industry. And they’re a
great way to make your résumé stand out from the competition.
The United States military relies on Networking Academy to teach active duty personnel how
to design, install, secure, and manage networks. Since 2000, more than 32,900 Army,
Navy, and Marines service members have enrolled in academy courses. As a veteran, you
can receive the same high-quality training at a college near you. In most cases, you can use
your GI Bill funds to pay for courses at an accredited school.
Networking skills are in great demand. In 2010, there were more than 347,000 network
administrators in the U.S., earning a median salary of $69,000. Higher level IT jobs pay
more. If you have a networking career in mind, academy courses can prepare you for
Cisco certifications that are highly prized by employers. Cisco certified professionals
have expertise it takes to work successfully with today’s fast-evolving communications
technologies.
Networking Academy curricula can empower you to access a wealth of opportunities,
in and out of IT. Graduates are primed for exciting new specialties ranging from socialmedia architecture to mobile technology or cloud computing. They also use their skills
to network small businesses and community
organizations, and to start their own businesses.
What you can expect:
 Expertise to succeed in many careers.
 Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
 Cutting-edge instruction by global experts.
 Entry-level to advanced courses—all MOSs
welcome.
 Membership in an interactive worldwide learning
community.
“Military personnel bring
a level of maturity and
self-reliance that is
invaluable to employers.
When you take the
benefits and characterbuilding of military
training, and combine
those with the depth and
quality of a Networking
Academy education, you
have the ingredients for
a very competitive and
confident job candidate.”
— Lt. Col. Bill Philbrick,
U.S.A. retired, former
IT director for the U.S.
Military Academy (West
Point), and Cisco VETS
group co-founder
Network and computer
systems administrator
jobs will grow by
28%
between 2010 and
2020, according to the
U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics.
That represents
96,600
new opportunities,
for just one of many
growing IT jobs.

Veterans Brochure
United States
Cisco is committed to supporting veterans.
Cisco employment: We count ~2500 former military members among our employees. Cisco’s
Veterans Enablement & Troop Support (VETS) employee resource group advocates for
veterans within the company and helps connect veterans to mentoring, training resources, and
career events such as the annual Cisco Veteran’s Technology Day.
100,000 Jobs Mission: This cross-industry coalition of leading U.S. companies
(www.100000jobsmission.com) was launched in 2011 with the aim of hiring 100,000
transitioning service members and veterans by 2020. Besides Cisco, there are more than 80
members, including AT&T, HP, IBM, JPMorgan Chase, TimeWarner, and Wells Fargo, who
have hired more than 28,000 veterans as of September 2012.
Hero 2 Hired: Developed by Futures, Inc. and supported through DOD Yellow Ribbon Reintegration, H2H (www.h2h.jobs) helps service members with job hunting, offering a military-tocivilian jobs translator, career exploration, and more. Futures, Inc. and Cisco are building a
jobs pipeline for 140,000 Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans of America and the U.S. Marine Corps.
Local partnerships: Cisco actively seeks to combine the military, higher education, and Cisco
resources in collaborative educational and employment partnerships. For example, a diverse
partnership in North Carolina brings together Networking Academy, Fort Bragg, Historically
Black Colleges & Universities, regional community colleges, North Carolina Central University,
and Cisco partner NWN Corp. for a collaborative, hands-on IT training program
(www.cisco.com/web/learning/netacad/us-can/docs/stories/2012-Story-US-VetsCorpTechDay.pdf). Cisco business partners also hire academy graduates.
President’s IT Certification Pilot: Cisco and Futures, Inc. were selected as IT leads by the White
House Joining Forces Initiative to pilot fast track training and certification to match job skill
requirements of IT employers with military skills (www.huffingtonpost.com/john-t-chambers/veteransjobs-training_b_3178723.html?utm_hp_ref=impactx).

Cisco Corporate Social Responsibility
We believe that businesses have a responsibility to operate in ways that respect and ultimately benefit people, communities and the planet we live
on; we call this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Our core CSR philosophy is that impact multiplies whenever human and technology networks
combine to solve a problem.
This is why we approach CSR the same way we approach business – by applying our technology, employee expertise and partnerships. We are
focused on four primary goals: improving the well-being of people and communities around the world, reducing our environmental impact and helping
our customers do the same, conducting our business ethically, and creating a workplace where our employees thrive.
